Two Years Post -Transplant

Hi Everybody, Two years ago today, a selfless person anonymously donated a healthy kidney to anyone needing such a blessing. Somehow, that kidney ended up coming to me. 2/22/22 became my new lucky number. My renal life has been great since that day. My numbers have been incredibly stable. I have devoted my life to ensuring my new kidney is well cared for. I eat, exercise, and remain mindful of all I do and how those things might impact my new kidney. I tried reaching out to the person who changed my life, but so far, no response. I keep this person in my prayers and talk to him regularly.

I mentioned how great my renal life has been, but there have been some challenges in other areas. I've dealt with an Enlarged prostate, aFib, aFlutter, joint pains, etc. Despite these issues, I push on and make sure the new kidney is cared for. 2023 was a tough year, but I maintained control of my diet and exercise and worked with my care team to resolve issues while always being mindful of my kidney situation. The enlarged prostate has been fixed, the aFib/flutter issues are very close to being resolved, and joint pains, probably arthritis. All things considered, I am still grateful for all I have been through.

Congratulations for being in such a good place. Out of curiosity, how did you fix your enlarged prostate?

Hi Marvin8, Thanks for your question. First, we tried medication FloMax, and Tadalafil. These medications did not help. Next came a cystoscope of the prostate and bladder. This exam found the center node of the prostate to be the problem area. To fix this problem and ultimately resolve my inability to empty my bladder, I had a Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP). I also continued on Flomax and Tadalafil for about three months before I asked to be taken off the medications to see if the TURP alone had fixed my problem. It's been over a year, and things are working fine for me. No urgency or frequent need to urinate, and I might ocassionally get up once or twice at night to use the bathroom.

Thank you Beachgirl32. Whenever I have the chance to tell people what I have been through they are amazed. Maybe one of those people will want to help someone the way I was helped. We all need to share our stories so that more people might be willing to step up and help.

Congratulations. That's wonderful. My brother is currently on dialysis, and just got on the wait list so I'm just hoping he can make it long enough and still be healthy enough if a kidney comes through.

My prayers are with you and your brother. Hopefully, dialysis will improve things for him. There may be some challenges ahead, but don't give up. Make sure his story is told.

Wonderful update, Marty! Like you, my hubby has had issues here and there with his transplant - bladder, a-fib, etc. But you're both troopers! And my hubby too is very grateful for his transplant. Keep on keeping on!
