I have at present an EGFR of 10 at my hospital we don't start dialysis until its consecutively below ten. I have tried to discuss transplantation and have been told I'm not there yet. Apparently I need yo be having dialysis before it's even discussed. Can I ask is there a.reason for that. I am very curious about the situation.

Hi Chip,
You got some misinformation. You do not say where you are from..... so I am going think USA. Call your local transplant facility on your own and apply to get on the list. Here's a link to help: kidney.org/atoz/content/how...
Most places will take you for evaluation if you are below 20..... It is a lengthy process and it takes a while, so do not wait. You can also list with multiple transplant centers if they are not in your region. I have attached a map.

Who told you you're ready for dialysis but not transplant? Sound very unscrupulous to me. Do you think you misunderstood that because you have other serious issues, that you might be denied? You should go through the process of evaluation anyways.
I would report whoever said that, especially if they are a doctor connected with the dialysis center they want to send you to. Highly unethical.
Tell us what happens.
In Italy you can be eligible for transplant list when you are below 15. The point is that who is already in dyalisis has a priority in organ assignation. And this is somenthing I can understand. If you want to speed up you can accept a special program which is called "dual kidney". In this program you accept "marginal organ" which are basically kidney coming from over 80 died person. Kidney coming from those donors are treated in a special perfusion machine and also with byopsy before getting released for transplant. You must be at least 50 for this. Last but least hope your team care already prepared you in case GFR would drop again.. rgs
NHS has stricter guidelines to conserve $. In the states you would have started dialysis by now and have access to waiting list as there us often a 5 year wait
