I came across an article about Olive Leaf extract. Then I put on my Google crown and went searching. I was amazed at the results of this product. I want to know if anyone is taking it? It says to use with caution with kidney disease but then I cannot find out why. Most articles talk about drop in blood pressure, and that's it. It is supposed to be good in lowering BP, inflammation and helping with diabetes. It can lower stress and help you sleep and even help with weight loss.?
Usually they say that to CYA my dear, as you know, and the benefits seem to outweigh any actual risk, if there are any. I don't see much beyond lowering blood sugars too much which is always bad for the kidneys. It looks like a VERY potent substance though and I would be sure to consult someone familiar with its particular benefits first. Usually I don't say that. I find out SO MANY are dangerous due to my blood thinners, people who SWEAR it cured this or that to me and made me do the research. Yeah, curcumin? Not good if you are on a blood thinner. Lots of formulations have it in it. Just an example. As for this one? I'd seek out a naturopath of repute. Not ill repute, of course, but umm good repute lollll
Thanks Cat, I know all about blood thinners as I was on them for 17 years. Until I demanded to be retested....and they discovered I have no anticoagulant issue. I was put on them originally because I had a clot removed in 2003. Never had another issue.
I know this product sounds too good to be true. But I am very interested because since I have gone on dialysis, my BP and glucose both have gone up.
I have been taking Olive Leaf extract capsules. ( started as Bon Olive but can't find it any more) for 2.5 years now to help build bone for my osteoporosis.
I take it in the AM as I take my Lisinopril at bedtime.
I checked with both my nephrologist and PCP who didn't have an issue.
I will read your articles in a bit, but read that it was fine for creatinine levels.
Hey Bet, So good to hear from you. Thanks for the information. I would ask my doctor, but she closed to things like this. Since I am now on dialysis, the only thing she wants me to do is do more dialysis. Once upon a time, she was very open to more alternative solutions but not now. My BP goes up, instead of down with dialysis. It is totally the stress. When I am off, and have a few days off, it goes back to a more normal level but still elevated compared to when I started. And my glucose had climbed up a bit, even with the same careful diet. Not a lot. But her answer is take more insulin, which I do not want to do. "NO one can explain why", but jeepers, ya think the glucose in the dialysate has anything to do with it? Just saying. So this product caught my eye as a solution to both. How much do you take?
I may not always be visible in the community, but know that I am thinking of you.
I can understand your frustration with the blank answers and more dialysis as the solution; its not a
1-2-3 thing.
Guarantee that the the stress is not helping your glucose, or especially your BP. Breathe!
I wish that more professionals would look at the whole person rather than one area!
I know the " No one can explain 'why,' " line as my brother has is being treated for a rare hematologic issue. It knocked his labs and glucose all over the place, so we've been there and still are; ..and stress.
Keep advocating for yourself and go forward!
As far as the Olive Leaf Extract, now take 250mg of the Nature's Way brand in the AM and one with dinner.
I haven't seen a BP change, as I normally have low to low normal BP.
I do make sure that I take my pm dose with dinner as I take my BP med. before bed and try to space them out.
My glucose generally stays within the same few points. My bone density stabilized and hopefully this has helped.
I don't know if cinnamon is kidney safe for you, but I read an article about its effects on glucose.
Due to my family background, I take 1,000mg daily.
Doctors are fine with it.
Ask about it as it may help. Just a thought.
Again, keep going forward and know that you are never alone in this!
I was recently convinced that although the majority of supplements don't do any good in a lifetime, according to science, that matcha tea (a form of green tea), but in capsules, was the answer to my ex-husband's dementia, and I am old and started taking it too. Its okay, not harmful, is what I've noticed so far. Plus there's the subtle stuff like energy that I convince myself is different now. In the animal study phase, all the effects of what an open-minded, reading person is already doing for their condition does not come into play. Then of course, there's the paid reviewer angle, since supplements are so lucrative but do not reliably contain what they claim, etc, not to mention all the confounding factors in an individual human life.
Thanks... this is what I am seeing and am wondering why people are not taking this herb. I believe in herbs and alternative medicine but I am also very cautious about what I take.
Thanks, That is exactly why I am looking into this. Along with the anti-inflammatory and more results. They will jump on giving me more chemical medications. I am looking for less chemicals and a more complete natural way to lower my BP, glucose and flares.
Not much help here but to say I've been taking olive leaf glycerite by NOW for a couple of years. Dose is two droppersful which is 200mg. I put it in my morning supplement concoction. I began taking it because it's good for heart health much as is olive oil but more concentrated. I've definitely noticed a drop in blood pressure but hadn't known the cause. If this is it then I say Yay! and thanks, I needed that. I've had no side effects nor bad reactions of any kind.
I'm only ckd 3A and holding so I would proceed more cautiously if I were on dialysis. Btw, the label describes this product as being a "free radical scavenger".
