Strength Training and Protein Intake with ADPKD

Hi,

I am looking for information on strength training with ADPKD. I have recently started weightlifting and am looking to put on muscle mass and increase strength, which was recommended by my GP. I was wondering if anyone else has done a similar program of deadlifts, squats, bench presses etc. Generally compound exercises to maximise exposure to all muscle groups.

My main concerns are:

1. Does anyone have controlled and medicated high blood pressure (mine is currently reading around 130/75-80 at rest) and has done a similar program in the past? If so, did you set any constraints on your workout? My thought would be that your BP goes dramatically low and high during deadlifts due to breath control. Could this present a health risk?

2. What dietary modifications have you made to enable muscle growth given the need for high protein (1.2g/kg for example)? Red meat is bad for kidneys, and protein is processed by kidneys, so I wonder how to achieve my goals without risking overworking my kidneys. Naturally I am drinking lots of water. I am also avoiding supplements like creatine.

Thanks for any pointers.

I can't get a straight answer from any of my medical team about this. I have four different, conflicting medical diets I'm supposed to follow. It impossible. I have a high output ileostomy with a parastomal hernia. I need to drink constantly and eat very low fiber. A blockage could kill me. I'm a T2 diabetic who should eat low carb. I'm on mounjaro to lose weight so I can stay on the transplant list. The MJ weight loss diet should be high protein. I'm stage 4 CKD, and should eat vegan, low protein. The only safe thing for all 4 diets is water. My Endo wants me at 800 calories a day to lose weight. As a genetically fat, post menopausal, insulin dependent diabetic with an incredibly slow metabolism, 800 calories is what I need to lose weight. Most folks on mounjaro drink protein drinks constantly. I'm afraid to because of the CKD. All my Dr want me working out 7 days a week. I just got blasted for skipping Thanksgiving day. One day at a time. It is so hard to get definitive answers from doctors.

Hi! I been told that eating yout protein is better than drinking protein shakes or protein supplements! and if u do drink them it must be once in a while but it can't be more than 30g of protein. Im kind of the same boat that i've started to lift weights and i want to increase muscle weight;; so im kind of struggling to find a spot where i can increse my protein intake but not damage my kidneys.
