update to my previous post about blood in urine.

After a previous posting that they had found haematuria in my urine regularly I found that I began to have blood that you could see after using the washroom. Since by this point it was so close to my CT scan I figured I’d wait. We have a healthcare crisis here and it’s very difficult to see a doctor. The CT scan left me none the wiser. I fear my doctor may not be telling me everything, as it stands, I’m waiting for a letter to go to a specialist to get to the bottom of it. This may take a while in the meantime I’ve been feeling very tired I live alone, so it’s not easy at times.i already know I have kidney disease The only thing I’ve really been told is the blood may be coming from my bladder which didn’t show up well on the scan. I will likely have a procedure done for this to see inside. I guess I overestimated what a CT scan could see.!

Hang in there! My hubby, too, went through multiple bladder tests. It's a process for sure. But eventually it leads to answers. We were surprised at my hubby's outcome - everyone assumed one thing but it turned out to be another (diabetic bladder dysfunction). Some bladder situations may be quite serious while others can be rather benign - it's always good not to project and worry too much while getting to the root cause. Modern science and medicine can be very helpful where it's needed. In the meantime, it's definitely hard waiting. Hugs!

Thank you! I should make it clear that my family doctor already knows about the fact that I can now see the blood as I had an appointment for my regular diabetes test results and informed him. This is the change that resulted in-the referral to a specialist and I was told 2-3 months as we only have a few here and they are very busy.

I agree with Darlenia that it is a process that does lead to answers so no point in needless worry however I would chase up the clinic that you go to, to try and get an earlier appointment. Your symptoms have changed since she/he last saw you as now you can see frank blood. Patients do this all the time. The receptionist/secretary/? actually do have power to offer you an earlier appointment or at least pass on your message to the specialist. Tell them that you haven’t actually seen blood before and that you’re worried about leaving it too long. A tough time of year to get appointments. No harm in giving it a go

Good advice. Also, my hubby was able to speed up his appointment by accepting one that another person cancelled.

There seems to be a shortage of urologists! Locally, it was a three month wait or so for us. Teaching hospitals that produce urologists tend to keep more in their area.

I had hematuria back in 2019-2020, which caused me to get very weak, shortness of breath after going upstairs, loss of my appetite and low blood pressure. I wound up in the hospital every month with those complaints, till finall one doctor said it was all due to kidney stones. He tried to get rid of them, but couldn’t for various reasons, and finally went to a teaching hospital, which corrected my problems, but now and stage 4 kidney disease. Good luck to you!

thanks so much for sharing that. I am very nervous. I do not have any kidney stones now they said I had a CT Scan. I am going to have a procedure with the urologist where he will look inside my bladder. I don’t know too much about it except that the first consultation is happening Jan 31. I do have pain in my back also. I have stage 3b kidney disease so I assumed in the beginning that it was something to do with my kidneys. Now I don’t know.
