consultant visit

First of all thank you to everyone who replied to my first post re diagnosis of CKD3a, the support and information was a fantastic start to my journey, as I was worried sick!. So this is an update following consultants visit. I don’t have diabetes or hypertension and my GP referred me to nephrologist as she wasn’t wanting to miss anything and needed the opinion of a nephrologist.

She also sent me for a scan as I had slight back pain, which showed I had scaring to my kidney. Since diagnosed with CKD, I joined this group and read soooo much. In a nutshell I now try to walk everyday (not on very tired days) , lost over a stone by choice and building a ‘ kidney friendly’ diet as best as I can at the moment, still a bit to change …work in progress probably covers me as I have still lots to learn and more weight to get off.

Suffice to say the consultant listened, really listened, he also studied blood, BP readings, urine and scan results. He said I was a healthy 66 yr old, and my kidney was ‘OK’, and I am doing all the right things. So ‘ok’ seemed good enough for me! He said my past pyelonephritis is the reason for the scaring, and was pleased my GP had started me on an Ace inhibitor too. He also said the back pain was definately not from the kidney so my aquafit must be the cause …might just stop that altogether and just walk!

So for now he has discharged me back to my GP for 6monthly or annual review , whatever their protocol is. I am not complacent, but with the continued support from the group , I will do my best to slow this disease down. The consultant was lovely but I pray I won’t need to see him for a long time. Wishing everyone well, and I just wanted to sent something positive. Just like everyone on the group, it is a deep niggling worry …and we can only do our best and live the best life we can. Wishing everyone well, love and hugs . Meant to add that I live in Scotland, as care may be different in other cities/countries x

Thank God you don’t have diabetes to go with the kidney problem! However, I’m sure I don’t need to tell you that it is still a good thing to watch sugar intake, as it is so hard on the body. Oops! I guess I told you anyway! 🤗😄

Thank you Curious, so glad you said that. A couple of friends who don’t know about CKD think I’m all cured and were implying I was worrying about nothing. Some people just don’t understand its a progressive ‘chronc’ disease, we have to really work at our health and be very careful, much much worse if you have diabetes and hypertension. . I took the positive side to share with the group as I feel we all need that. Yet we well know even in early stages we can have extreme tiredness and ill days, which I stop telling folk , as before I was diagnosed I just thought I was depressed and ill! . I will no doubt see the consultant again but I will hold it off as long as I can. Keep well everyone, and thanks again
