I've been on enalapril-hctz about two months he gave me a cortisone shot 7/13/23 in my foot for plantar fasciitis and said this will cure it an about 2 hours later the pain was back and I couldn't even walk because the whole bottom of my foot was sore almost 2 weeks. I got cushion inside my shoes to relieve some of the pressure and now go to physical therapy which helped a lot and from here on I'm going to have my cardiologist diagnose my heart only.
I had an echo stress test 8/10/23 and told him I have a problem getting back to sleep after I go to the bathroom and getting about 4 hours sleep and it's time to get up for work at 5:30. I go to bed at 7pm now to try to get enough sleep but it takes so long between each time I go to the bathroom to go back to sleep.
We did not discuss anything and he wrote another prescription for Enalapril 10mg and Chlorthalidone 25mg I called him back after I looked up this new prescription because I had ckd3 and this medicine doesn't look good to take.
It took almost three years to get myself halfway back together and I know once you had ckd you STILL have it even if your numbers are better has anyone taking Chlorthalidone with good results with their kidneys?

Hi, I was told to cut it in half by my Dr. I also took it every other day instead of daily. Now that my GFR is lower, my Dr told me to stop taking diuretics. If it's bad for me now, I don't understand why they prescribe them at all. I remember watching Dr Oz on TV long time ago and he said never take diuretics as they are bad for your kidneys! I have a hard time trusting doctors! If it is bad in stage 5,why was it ok in stage 4?
The doctor prescribe this because sometime my pressure goes to stage 1 sometime since I've been on this enalapril-hctz 5.12.5. I complained having trouble falling back to sleep every two hours when I go to the bathroom.
I believe we should have address the problem falling back to sleep I have no problem taking the increase of 5mgs of enalapril but looking at the side effects of 25mg to start when seniors should start at lower does.
I had ckd3 why would he give me something knowing I have kidney problem plus I'll be 77 next month. He knows my history I believe it's time to find a new doctors that works with your primary doctor and/or consider your medical record before writing a prescription.
Diuretics are very common to be prescribed to CKD patients and dialysis patients. They help produce more urine - reducing edema and blood pressure. Usually loop diuretics are prescribed instead of thiazide diuretic like Chlorthalidone but I'm not sure for the reason, they work a little differently. Sometimes they can reduce potassium too much and there are potassium-sparing diuretics.
Personally, I've been on Torsemide for many years, starting around GFR of 30 and I am still taking it 2 years into PD dialysis.
