Just got my diagnosis 3aCKD

Got my diagnosis about the kidney the same time I was told I have dangerously high potassium levels and clogged arteries. no other symptoms like diabetes, high blood pressure, etc. I am 73 though. Anyway, i need to know what to eat. It seems things I can eat that are good to lower my potassium are not good for my kidneys. Does anyone have a good reference book on diets for CKD? Thanks. I feel scared and lost right now and have so many questions. Seems like one month ago I was completely healthy-or at least I thought I was. Thank you.

I was diagnosed at CKD 3b when I was 77 years old. I was put on appropriated CKD diet based on bloodwork results for potassium, phosphorus and protein. The diet has helped me. You might request your Doctor give you a CKD diet. Davita web site has good recipes and diet tracking. Keep us posted. Here is link to info on eGFR from National Kidney Foundation

A book I bought off of Amazon is “ Learn the Facts about Kidney Disease “ by Dr Steven Rosansky an excellent book he talks about potassium and diet and all aspects of kidney disease. He also does live chats on utube channel called Dadvicetv Can I ask how high is your potassium. I also have a problem controlling mine.

Medications can raise your potassium. Make sure you medications are not doing that. Then foods to stay away from are red meat, chicken and turkey has potassium also so limit them. Bananas, melons, some citrus fruits, tomato and tomato products, potato and potato items like French fries. There are list of foods on Google and become familiar with how much of each you can safely consume.

Here are 9 of the highest sources of potassium in foods: Orange Juice; Bananas; Potatoes; Cooked Spinach; Chocolate; Nuts; Broccoli; Peas; Mushrooms.

Here is a list I made of some Kidney Healthy Foods; Cabbage; Berries; Fish; Egg Whites; Olive Oil; Garlic; Onions; Red Bell Peppers; Cauliflower; Apples; Cinnamon; Kidney Beans; Java Tea; Ginger; Cucumber. The kidney beans may be high in potassium.

How about Avacado oil? Thank you. This is very helpful

It's weird. Avocados are high in potassium but the oil is not.
