Careful, if you read the full study text kidney cell “regeneration” is only indicated for AKI not CKD. Specifically the Discussion section of the study says only this regarding CKD:
In CKD, anti-IL11 was associated with TEC proliferation, restoration of kidney parenchymal mass and reversal of renal failure. Importantly, unlike anti-TGFβ, anti-IL11 therapy reduces renal inflammation/tubule damage and target safety signals in humans and mice deleted for IL11RA or IL11 are encouraging35. Our studies suggest potential therapeutic opportunities for anti-IL11 in acute and chronic kidney diseases. In fact, nearly the entire article is about AKI CKD is mentioned only in the very last section and the discussion.
I don’t mean to rain on anybody’s parade just trying to bring some additional information that might clarify this subject. Some additional information on research into potential kidney cell regeneration:
Research into stem cells is promising but no clinical trials have begun to test any potential regenerative therapies in humans. Still a need for funding and for more medical studies. Maybe one day but the research into the artificial kidney is in phase 1 clinical trials. My hope is those will progress smoothly and the artificial kidney could be available in 3/5 years. Links:
