I am already 75..vision problems and still stage 3B..The time may come when i need dialysis..and technically as a nurse PD is something i could do but trying to main tain the steriity is not realistic as i also do animal rescue.and the animals will always be my priority,,My rescue pigeons live in my room..dog and cat the rest of the house..so for me hemo is the best option...I have the time and the dialysis center is less thn 2 miles away..
I have given my adult life to the care and rescue of animals in need so they d come firt..i so not think it will be an issue.. i have a trust fun for their care so they are safe
happy Sunday

I do not think that having animals will preclude you from dialysis in the home as long as there is an area that can be clean and fairly sterile. But at stage 3b, you may be able to say off dialysis for many years. There are many things you can do to slow the progression down. Let us know if you are interested in learning more.
I have 4 rescue dogs and am starting PD. I can shut my bedroom door without them in there. We clean the house several times a week to keep up with the hair. I'm not getting rid of my dogs.
Thank you for the reply..You said WE clean the house.. I my case it is only I.. and I a not miss housekeeper..Bhe cat litter dust.. pigeon dander and dog hair.. well I know my house would never pass .. and the reality is I do not want added stress of dditional housekeeping. or lcking animals out of rooms.. the upside is at my age I tend to stay home far too much now that I have retired..and if I do end up on dialysis.. as did my day.. well sitting with others who uderstand sure ha its benefits vs more at home alone time.... I figure have a few years as i am sort of carefu about what I ingestI am a vegetarian for the healt of animals.. just can't eat wht I love...lol
Cats and dogs give us a lot of happiness and comfort. I have one cat and 3 dogs (used to have 2 cats and 5 dogs) and they are great to release my stress. And they know if you are not well and will come and comfort you.
What type of Dialysis you choose is completely up to you...and as a Nurse you also realize that your home most likely would not meet criteria for Home PD....nothing wrong with doing Hemo at your Clinic...but those decisions may still be quite a few years before needing to be made...It took me 23 years to go from 3a to 5....Bless you and your Babies
Bless you for taking care of our friends. I have always adopted cats, especially the older ones who have trouble being adopted. They bring great comfort. Hopefully, your 3B will stay steady and you won't need dialysis. I was stage 5 and near death when I received the gift of life Hang in there.
I just had my 20 year old kittys leg amputated due to Fibrosarcoma he is doing fantastic.. I was a non profit for cats ..must of my kitties lived 20 years..
Good for you. Between all the animals we rescued, plus the one tied to our door, we had quite a few. This was after hemo and the transplant.
