Good morning Bananas. Good luck to your husband, I wish him the best. I looked through all of your posts and don't get much information from them. You did say that he was ANA positive. I just wanted to tell you my story and pass some more information on to you in case you were not aware. Another autoimmune disease that can cause kidney failure is GPA (granulomatosis with polyangiitis) which is what caused my CKD and it was formerly called Wegener's. The blood test for that is ANCA. My disease was detected by the kidney biopsy after my kidneys had failed to stage 5. Now my nephrologist tests me for ANCA every 6 months in case of a relapse or flare. There is generally many other symptoms that accompany Lupus and GPA besides declining kidney function.

Good morning. Thank you for your reply. It's a long story but to try to sum it up, he's had clinically mild proteinuria for going on 3 years. His gfr started in the normal-ish range but slowly declined to 61. However, he reduced his protein intake and his last test showed a gfr of 83. We are praying that that's not a fluke. He also has microhematuria that's not visually noticeable. Other than that, there's been labs that have come back wonky, out of normal range but not severe.

I am praying that whatever this is, we caught it before years and years have gone by and will hopefully be able to be proactive about it.

Thank you again for your kind reply.

I had a biopsy a couple of years ago and it was pretty much a non event. I went in, they have me some sedative and had me lay on my stomach. I don't remember it at all. They put me in recovery for about 4 hours and then my husband drove me home. I spent the next couple of days resting. Easy peasy. He'll sail through it.

Everything went good. They did the biopsy at around 10:15 and were planning on discharging him at 12:45. I thought that was a little soon. Well, they made him go to the bathroom and it was full of bright red blood. Had to stay under observation for another 2 hours. The blood completely went away and they sent him home. It's the next day and no more blood in his urine. Only mild back pain but he said it's not from the biopsy but from laying down in a different position than he's used to.

So glad to hear that. I'm surprised at the people who had a biopsy and was out on the same day. I had to spend 24 hours in hospital for mine.

I guess it depends on the hospital. They did do a CBC blood test before they let him leave. I'd say we were at the hospital 7 hours from the time we walked into the lobby until we left yesterday.

He got test results on MyChart this morning. But I think it's just regarding the actual biopsy and not the results from the pathologist. They just say "Successful and uncomplicated CT-guided core renal biopsy ".

any type of biopsy takes 2-3 weeks since covid began.i guess they must have somehow lost pathologists. its the waiting period that is really stressful. valiums would have helped me but i did not ask and they did not offer. best of luck.

Thank you. He's got proteinuria so whatever it is, we are praying it's treatable and minor.

i have it and it is treatable. its a side effect of ckd.excess protein in the urine. i was prescribed lisinipril which is a blood pressure drug. i take a low dosage 5 mg. per day. my protein went from 59 to 15 in a very short time.i believe normal is under 30 but check with his doctor.
