Do you have CKD and pain in MID back?

Hi everyone,

I have CKD and some mild liver issues which I believe I have under control now (the liver issues). Does anyone here have kidney problems but feel a pain/swelling in their back more towards the middle of the back as opposed to the typical LOWER back pain? I actually have NO lower back pain and only feel a pain and swelling up more towards the middle of my back on the right side away from the spine. I am wondering if anyone else experiences this?

I am going to do a follow-up with an annual ultrasound to see if they can find anything. Any real world experiences is great - thanks

yes I do but my kidney Disease is from polycystic kidney disease so I have cyst in my kidneys and my liver so they press against other organ causing my back to hurt sometimes. My heating pad is my best friend for it.

I hope your ultra sound help you in finding out what your pain is from.

Thanks for your response here. Do you also have the lower back pain? Would you mind describing what other symptoms you have, if any?

yes I also have lower back pain and sometimes I have sharp pain in my abdomen below the breast bone but I know I have a giant cyst on my liver and I think this feel like my muscle all cramp up then it will ease after a minute but again I know it from being push against other organs

I’m in stage five kidney disease so I fatigue more than normal I don’t have any of the toxic symptoms that can happen in stage five as yet.

Thanks for this, I hope the best for you!

I would say the pain in your back is most likely being radiated from your liver or possibly from one of the other organs in the abdomen. I know it seems weird but that is something that happens.

Chances are it is not kidney related. It is good that you are having an ultra-sound. Maybe it will show what is going on. My nephrologist said that kidneys do not cause pain on their own unless you have Polycystic Kidney disease, a blockage, kidney stone or an infection.

-Yep, I do. First noticed pain swelling in that spot after a car accident/whip lash decades ago. In recent months, the pain & swelling has increased & I've had an xray showing nothing, other scans haven't been ordered by the dr.

Thanks for the response, does the swelling increase based on certain foods you're eating? OR does yours pretty much stay the same size most of the time?

Not sure, UhOhCKD. Haven't connected anything at this point other than physical activity causing extra swelling -mine may well be damage/scar tissue from the original injury. I do follow the kidney friendly diet from healthline.com/nutrition/fo...
