Atrophied Kidney

Hi there

I had a CT scan of my lower back as I keep getting sharp back pain that is relieved after a bowel movement.

No sign of kidney stones

I have small scared kidneys and life time uti's (age 49)

It says my left kidney is Atrophied. My doctor had said that my kidney function of 66 is fine and does not seem bothered that my creatinine is 89.

Also my urate levels is high at 393

I have high blood pressure ( on meds) and just started on statins as I have high cholesterol and triglycerides. I have a bmi of 26 and am very active.

The reason I am looking into all of my symtoms is that I dont feel well at all. I have been suffering with constant stiff elbow and hand pain since April. This is really getting me down down and limiting my daily life (have to take codeine for work)

oh and often when I get back pain i test my urine with a dip stick and it shows i have leukocytes and blood in my urine.

I feel the doctors are missing something.

Whats your thoughts????

What doctors have you seen? I would suggest an ortho for the pain. Maybe carpel tunnel? I would also suggest you keep a pain/symptom/food diary. It can be quite helpful in determining what is going on.

Just my normal NHS doc. I do write down when I feel crap and have a food app.

You might ask if you can be referred to an ortho for the pain.

Maybe have discussion with your Primary Doctor about your test results. This forum is not able to diagnose.

Soz. I was just wondering if anyone else has had the same. My doctors don't seem that bothered.

I am sorry to hear that. Maybe it is easier in US to get an appointment with another Doctor to get a second opinion.

I had lower back pain on my right side , a few inches below my waist. I got my kidneys scanned and my right kidney is shrunken...same as your left. Then I went in for a scan that measured the blood flow through the kidneys and there was about 60% blockage in the shrunken kidney (which I think was causing the pain). I wonder if your stiff elbow and hand pain might be related to work - do you have a desk job? - and if the malaise you are feeling is caused by the statins. You seem to have a lot going on but maybe the conditions are not connected.

Not what you're looking for?
