Protein in urine

I continue to spill protein in my urine. I had an adverse reaction to Lisinopril so I can’t take that. Other than limiting protein in diet, what else have you found that helps?

Can you take an ARB like Losartan instead of lisnopril? It is also prescribed for reducing proteinuria? And if your proteinuria is due to IGAN then there is also an FDA approved medication for it that helps with proteinuria. It’s called Trapeyo. Farciga is another medication for CKD. I do not have any personal experience of using either but you can check with your neph.

Other than that plant based diet, low protein diet , avoiding glutinous grains and nightshades as well as eating less of processed food etc are also suppose to be helpful. Your dietician can help you guide through this.

Ask your doctor about Telemartin or Micardis. They are the same but one is generic. I'm too lazy to get up and see which is which but that is what my neph put me on. It helped some.

Among ACE inhibitors there several different class and brand. Speak your Doctor maybe there's something different you can try. As far as I know ACE are most effective drugs to reduce proteinuria.

Interested in what type of adverse reaction you had to lisinopril. Would be nice to know more about your diagnosis. Have you had a biopsy?

Lisinopril can raise potassium levels.

best thing is diet change. Drugs can only do so much. Lasting meaningful dietary change will make the biggest difference.

Did they start with the lowest dose possible? Most doctors do not. That was my problem. I would get 20 mg and stop taking it because it made me feel like crap. So the neph gave me 2.5 mg and that reduced the protein and after a couple of week of adjusting, I was good to go. Second, the SGLT 2 inhibitors also stop protein leakage. Try one of those.
