Hello all - I am stage 4 ckd and I am about to try Jardiance and was wondering if anyone on here has had any experience with this medicine. I understand it is very similar (same class of drug) as Farxiga, which my insurance won't cover. Thanks in advance.
Jardiance: Hello all - I am stage 4 ckd and I... - Kidney Disease
Jardiance
I don’t have any experience with jardiance but I’m curious, do you have diabetes or is your dr prescribing to help kidneys? Good luck & I hope you will get replies from ppl who have been on jardiance. 🙏🏻
Thank you for the replies. I do not have diabetes, but rather ckd (iga nephropathy, specifically). Dr. prescribed it to try and slow progression of kidney function decline. Just picked it up from pharmacy today, but haven't started taking it yet. Fingers crossed as well as a lot of prayers.
I hope it helps your kidneys. I’m interested to hear more of your experience after you take jardiance. I don’t have diabetes either and haven’t been prescribed any diabetic medication. You’ll be in my prayers. 🙏🏻
Hello Boulder98. I have stage 4 ckd and do not have diabetes. I started farxiga about a year ago to help slow the progression of the ckd. It reduced my protein leakage and my eGFR has remained the same. So far I have not experienced any of the negative side effects from it. I am lucky that my insurance covers it. I was shocked to see how expensive it is without insurance. Good luck with the jardiance.
Hi Chucka - So glad the farxiga is working for you and no negative side effects! It is my understanding that Jardiance is in the same class of drug as Farxiga, so I am hopeful for a similar experience. Thanks for sharing your experience. It gives me some confidence. Be well!
Best of luck with it!
Boulder, I am a huge fan of reading the potential side effects and warnings of various medications before I start taking them. I just looked on the Jaridance website. It indicates that it can cause kidney damage. It can also cause dehydration. The "kidney damage" and "UTIs" it mentions are probably because of dehydration. It also says to not take it if you are on dialysis. Don't forget that if you end up on dialysis.
I suggest asking the doc how much water/fluid to drink every day (max and min). Since your kidneys are already sick, that is something you'll have to dial in.
Best of luck, my friend.
Hi BabyTee and thanks for your message. I am generally aware of the warnings and I am keeping a close eye on any possible symptoms. Asking my doctor about how much fluids I should drink each day is a great suggestion. Labs in 3 weeks, which will give me insight on any harm it may be doing to my kidneys. Thanks for your thoughts/suggestions/advice.
