It was bound to happen.....

When my CKD started causing a lot of foot edema I literally couldn't even fit into my sandals last summer.

So I bought a cute pair of short booties for the winter in a wider width.

My beloved kitty, Henry, just happened to pick my one and only pair of wide width shoes to barf on today. I washed them off but they are wet and I'm swollen today. I'll just walk around in socks and hope I don't do the splits or something.

How do pets always know the one worst spot in the house to pick?

Sophie, you crack me up. We have a very old kitty. She is at least 17. She knows just where in the hall to pick to yark so that her Dad steps in it barefoot in the dark in the morning. Got to love our babies. Be careful in socks, but if you do manage a split, please take a picture to share with us. Happy New Year...

I'll have to get my kitty to take a pic if I do the splits but I'll share the blow-by-blow story.

Yuck, stepping in kitty yark barefooted is something I am happy to say I haven't experienced. I usually wear slippers or shoes.

I did step on a slug or snail barefooted as a kid. I scrubbed my foot for over an hour. I was so disgusted, I was about 8 y/o.

My Henry is guesstimated to be around 16. He was a feral his first year so who really knows, then 10 years at a rescue and 5 with me. I adopted him when he was 11. Poor sweetie, I just couldn't let him live there the rest of his life.

It's only Jan. 1st, I can't wait to see what hijinx I'll get into this year.

Try to have a happy and healthy 2022, laughter is the best medicine and far better than most medicines for the kidneys!!

😂 I've been owned by cats all my life. They do pick their spots to wreak havoc. The oldest of my 2 cats is 17 years and 8 months old, born to a feral mother in our barn. Mother died, and the grandchildren found 2 kittens still alive, rescued them, had fed them, and then gave them to me. One has been gone for years after some major health issues, but this one is still going; she's sleeping more and playing less, getting picky about food, coughs every day for a little while, but she's still enjoying her role as queen of the house. She puts the 4 year old terrible terror of a tortie in her place all the time.

BTW, you might consider getting a pair of socks with those little nubs on the bottom that keep you from slipping, just in case Henry decided to bless your booties again.

I have also had at least one dog most of my life, but the last one crossed the rainbow bridge almost 2 years ago, and my husband says no more dogs. I know that there are studies showing that people who own dogs live longer, but I read this recently about cat owners: pets.thenest.com/people-own...

Thanks for the link. I totally agree. I think that any type of pet will help in the same manner.

Senior pets are so special. I find we tend to bond with them even more as they need us more.

I've always had a solo kitty and a pair of bunnies since I've been a kid. My last 3 kitties each lived to be 20 y/o. My last pair of bunnies died 5 years ago and the apartment where I live now won't allow more than one pet, and no exotic pets which they call rabbits. Hey, not like I want a giraffe or something really exotic, just a bunny or two, spayed and neutered naturally.

The nubby socks are a great idea. I'll head over to Amazon now, I think I have seen them with kitties on them or that look like kitty feet. I just ordered some kitty feet slippers to match my Henry's feet in orange/white yesterday, they'll arrive Tues.

That is funny. We have 4 cats (too many) and it's a love/hate relationship. Studies show having pets is good for your blood pressure. They use us for food, nice environments and as caretakers. There are more cats than dogs in the U.S. However, more households have dogs in total. Guess many of us are a bit cat crazy. Guilty grin.

I have always had a single kitty and a pair of bunnies. I agree that pets are great for our health and stress as long as we aren't cleaning up barf!!!

Dogs used to outnumber cats but I think cats are ahead now because they are easier to leave at home alone all day while their people go to work. Dogs need more attention and a walk during the day or they'll pee in the house and tear up shoes, not just barf on them!! LOL

Our fur babies/heart husbands/shoe and carpet barfers. Gotta love them. Good thing they are so cute, it's impossible to be upset with them.

IJust adopted a 10 month old kitten. He was a rescue and afraid of me at first, but now whenever he hears me moving the bed he’s next to me waiting to be petted. I live alone so it’s nice to have somebody else to talk to you although he rarely talks back ( that can be a good thing.). I had to get a letter from my doctor because my housing development does not allow pets. So he’s an emotional support cat. I haven’t had cats for years because wherever I lived they weren’t allowed but I’m so happy to have one now. Always good to hear from you

Congratulations on your new kitty!!!! My Henry is an ESA as well. Henry is quite the chatter. We have long conversations. He listens intently and interjects a meow or mew here and there as if he saying "oh really", "tell me more", "no way" and other appropriate remarks!!! LOL

In April it will be 5 years since I adopted Henry. He was 11 at that time. He lived 1 year as a feral on the street and 10 years at a rescue not being adopted because he wasn't a kitten or socialized.

I hope your new kitten brings you as much joy as Henry brings to me. Animals make a huge difference in our lives.

Here's a pic of Henry in his winter hat:
