Are you sure its down to the kidney disease as you might have other health conditions such as Thyroid issues which can affect the hair and it could also be a medication such as Methetraxate. I only ask as Methetraxate caused me severe hair loss so it was stopped and my hair did regrow normally and therefore its worth considering all the other options as well.

Im currently stage 4 gfr 22. I began losing my hair about 6 months ago. I am still growing new hair, but it is very thin and I'm losing tons of what I already had. Its one of the harder things i had to get used to, but a good stylist can help. I usually wear mine in a ponytail so its less obvious when I go out. Never a bad idea to check with your doc or pharmacist about possible side effects from medicine. Please remember you aren't alone. You've found this group.

HI, Medications can cause hair loss. Poor diet will too. You can take your med list to your local pharmacist and they can review it for you and tell you if any of the drugs you are on can cause hair loss. As far as CKD, lack of good nutrition can cause hair loss and when we are trying to be careful with what we eat, we may trigger hair and muscle loss. Have a dietician review your food intake if you can. We do know that lower protein is good for CKD, but will have impact on protein loving parts of our body like hair, nails and muscle. Its such a balancing act.

Yes. I also suffer with hair loss. I lose a lot of hair daily in the shower. I can see my scalp at the front above my forehead. However, these days, mine may be more attributed to the daily dose of Colchicine that I need to take to control my gout issues. Since menopause, my gout has become chronic. I actually was always complimented on my hair as a younger woman. Now, the hair that I do have is regrowth that returned after I’d lost most of my “good” hair due to low protein / hemoglobin back in 2009. It was dangerously low then when I was first diagnosed with CKD. My hair now looks like brown cotton candy! Lol! Oh well. I have to laugh, or I’ll probably cry! 😂😂💕🙏

I lost a bunch of hair about 6-8 months ago when I also lost about 80 lbs very quickly. I started taking biotin and folic acid and that has seemed to turn things around. I also stopped coloring my hair as when I did the hair coloring more hair seemed to be falling out. Good luck I know how heartbreaking it can be :(
