Urinary Frequency (but not at night)

Hi everyone. I’m at stage 3a with my most recent GFR being 50 (October 2020.) During the past few days I’ve had to urinate more often than normal, sometimes several times in an hour. This only happens during the day. I’m wondering whether this is a symptom of CKD or something else. From what I’ve read and heard, symptoms of CKD usually don’t manifest until very late. I feel fine and have had no other possible CKD symptoms. I’d appreciate any thoughts.

No idea.

One question springing to mind though, is whether the quantity has gone up as well as the frequency. You might have the normal amount of urine being produced and something is causing you to want to pee more frequently (but at small quantities). Which would appear to place the issues somewhere south of the kidneys.

Thanks, Skeptix. I appreciate your input. I don’t think I’m urinating more in volume, but it’s hard to say. My urine is normal color and there’s no foam. So maybe it’s a bladder infection or something else.

The thing that discovered my CKD per chance was peeing less and more frequently. Nothing to do with the CKD itself but the urologist I went to happened to spot something amiss with the kidney numbers. It's come and gone but even now, I pee in the morning, then about 5 minutes later pee again. Small quantity but more frequently at that time of the day.

CKD 50 means you'd be under management, I'd guess, so one to run by your doc and check out further yourself.

I always say I am glad I am still peeing. The frequency is not unusual. Are you drinking more fluids? Are you eating more fruits or other foods that have a large portion of fluid in them? Do you have coffee or tea in the am which is a diuretic? Do you take a pill that acts like a diuretic such as a blood pressure pill. Many of them do that, even if they are not prescribed as a diuretic. If it is worrying you, see a urologist to make sure there is nothing else wrong like prostate or bladder issues. Just to be sure.

I drink coffee every morning. I cut it out of my routine this morning and seem to be doing better with urinate frequency. I did have a few beers on Sunday night. Seems odd that it would affect my urinary pattern on the next day, though. I rarely drink alcohol so I guess anything’s possible.

Went on a long hike two days ago. Made the mistake of having coffee before hydrating for the hike. Was pissing like a racehorse. Coffee can have a BIG effect on your urinary habits.

The alcohol the night before will make you bloated and then the next day, your body will release the water it was storing. So yes, it might make a difference.
