The company I have asked about back up their claims with clinical trial information and reviews BUT can this possibly be as good as they claim

My mum is in stage 4 and she's 98 so I doubt they will offer transplant or dialysis

Thanks

HI SmallZooThey won't offer transplant but it is her choice for dialysis. If this was the end all cure for CKD, why would no one else no about it??????? Snake oil!

Thanks. I've seem many scams out there but does that mean all the people on there that said the ckd scores climbed a lot in 4 to 6 weeks are lying or all fake?

I know that science doesn't have all the answers , is it possible at all they have found something that might work

Truthfully, no... they are probably not even people. They make up the names. If you look at similar products, you will see the same format and style of this site. One thing that I caught that made me laugh right out loud was the person who went from stage 4 to 1... sorry, no way that was possible. Chinese herbs are fascinating, but also very dangerous unless you are working DIRECTLY with a practitioner who is also a full on MD. There are so many interactions with herbs, all kinds of herbs, that if you do not know what you are doing can be extremely dangerous. Herbology, homeopathic and other alternative medicine all have their place and have been around for centuries. The problem is when you mix herbs and chemical medicines and do not have proper supervision of the "prescriptions". Also there is no oversite of the production of the products as the FDA does not regulate supplements. So you never really know what is in the products, even though they say the ingredients. NO one is checking.

I had a friend who took a specific blend of Chinese herbs that was made specifically for her by a Chinese medicine doctor. It blew out her colon and she ended up on a bag for life. Wish there was a magic pill or cure for CKD, but the only thing really that works for a slight improvement or slowing the decline is hard work, clean living, diligence with a strict diet and exercise and the most important thing, a good medical team supporting you.

Thanks very much for that

Being new to this, how on earth do I design a diet for a 98yr old with mild heart failure

I don't know where to start

She is sitting around 24 which is into stage 4 and not that unwell so I want to at least try and stabilise it

Cheers

Frist, ask her what she wants. If I was 98, I would want my life to as simple but pleasant as can be. Find out if she would want to go on dialysis. I know my 94 y o Father in law said no to it. We do not really prescribe diets as one should be designed by a dietician. But this is general info for most kidney patients. And then if she is willing: keep her hydrated, cut down on salt and processed foods, and limit caffeine, which will be good for the heart failure. Cut out red meat if she is still eating it and limit dairy. Vegetables are great but you have to be aware of potassium overload, which again is why it is good to have a dietician work with you. If I was 98 however, I am not sure I would want to give up any of the small pleasures I still enjoyed so ask before you change her food. My mother in law had dementia and would not eat. She went back to when she was younger and wanted to keep her petite figure. It was a real struggle, even in the nursing home. But chocolate, that was just fine in her mind so they gave her chocolate often including a nutritional drink with chocolate in it. That was all she would eat for the most part for the last two years of her life. At least she was eating something.

98.. wow she must have done something right. If it were me I would eat chocolate cake for breakfast.. and maybe top it off with a cigar.. quantity is good but quality is also great and none of us life forever..just what works for me.. I have worked as a case manager with seniors as a nurse for a long time. If I have patient who is at the end of their life .. don't tell them to gave up doughnuts if their breakfast doughnut makes them smile..again.. it is what i would want for those i love as well as myself.. and happiness does extend life...

Honestly I don't even think her kidneys have any issues at all and that its just her age. I just went online and reverse calculated her serum creatinine and its about 165 umol/l or about 1.67 mg/dl, normal is about 100 umol/l. Don't worry too much unless her kidney function has been dropping massively as her serum creatinine is still fine, there are individuals here whose blood creatinine has crossed 200 umol/l. Just cut down on salt and red meat and eat healthy and your mum should be fine
