Hi, Tony🐶

There are several people in this forum who are receiving HD dialysis, some for 15 years or longer. I’m sure others will respond soon.

I’m not yet on dialysis but plan to use PD dialysis when the time comes...

Hi, yes there are a number of folks here who are on dialysis, however there is another community called Kidney Dialysis where you might get more responses and even faster. Nothing says you can't be in two communities.Best of luck.

Hi Tony. My husband went on emergency in-center HD dialysis almost one year ago - in June. He was near death at that point with incredibly high blood pressure, little energy, and more. After he started dialysis, he felt (and looked) much better. We later checked into getting him a kidney transplant at which time we were told to transition to at-home PD since it's easier on the blood vessels. But yes, dialysis indeed made him feel better and saved his life. And he continues to run his business today at age 71. There are many good forums that you can find to help you navigate the "ins and outs" of dialysis. If you're on Facebook and like good conversation with other men on dialysis, you may want to check out "Kidney Warriors: Men's Support". I believe they "zoom" together regularly and membership spans both the US and the UK. (I understand the comradery is outstanding.) Let us know how things turn out for you!

I felt helpless and unable to get around due to fatigue. Once I started nocturnal home hemo it changed dramatically. I went out and got a job and worked nearly full time for 7 years. We also owned a farm.I feel much better now. It is a lifestyle change, but it does get better.

Blessings

People who have never been anemic don't understand the lack of energy. Over the 4th I was making salad, cutting up green onions and apple and had to stop every few minutes as my arms were too tired. THAT is fatigue. IF we had cancer people could get it, but they know we live for years so we aren't offered the same amenities or courtesies. This is NEW, DIFFERENT LIFE. We can still work, attend school, travel, move, drive. If impacts each person differently.Clinics, if you do in center you have to provide your own blankets, pillows, drinks,. They offer nothing.

Cancer clinics they bring warm blankets, pillows, drinks, snacks, even socks sometimes.

Been at this nearly 20 years, 14 arm accesses, many catheters. Done in center, home hemo (nocturnal, extended), PD. I have experience

Anemia and low iron stores are common. Once they start maintaining these and get extra fluid off your body you will feel better.
