Tired of being tired

I have ADPKD and a GFR of 55 (at the moment). I have never been so tired. I shouldn't be this tired. I can't get through an entire day at work. I have to go home at noon and catch a cat nap so I can finish my day. Then I feel guilty because there are people who are a lot sicker than I am that can function just fine. Then I'm grouchy because I have the potential to be like this for years. Is anyone else in this boat?

I would see if you can get some bloodwork. It will tell you and your provider a lot.

I've always been a vocal advocate of naps, in general. 45 minutes seemed to work for me. By the time I realized my kidneys caused any changes, I was up to 2 hr naps!! Though I still recommend a nap, too much of a good thing is still too much.

Agreed, 45 minutes seems to be the magic number

With a GFR of 55, something else is going on. It is quite common to get anemia with CKD. Have you hemocrit and hemoglobin checked and also your b12. If you have anemia, there is a lot to do to mitigate the fatigue. Check your labs.

Do you have anemia? Are they treating it? I take iron twice a day. My blood work isn't bad enough for epo shots or blood transfusions, but bad enough that I am tired all the time too. It sucks.

Hi! The tiredness is the devil. It can be frustrating to be exhausted when your numbers (or sometimes medical personnel) tell you there is no reason. There is still so much to learn about these illnesses. Medicine has come a long way but they do not have all the answers yet. You are tired. You know it. It's totally maddening. I am the same. I wish I could help. You are not alone.

Your illness and what your body needs is just as important as other's health is for them. I know we like to compare ourselves to others worse off but the more I started understanding I am important and that my illness is important, the better I felt emotionally. don't feel guilty for doing what you need to do.

Now the tired of being tired? I get that on a personal lever.

Have you thought of thyroid issues? My CKD was one of the first signs (that doctors missed because they know very little about thyroid or are able to read test results properly) of hypothyroidism. CKD is an acknowledged Co-morbidity of hypothyroidism.

No I have all that tested regularly

One thing to check out is sleep apnea. I am constantly fatigued and in the same boat as you with a gfr of 36. My nephrologist said that I shouldn’t feel this way from my ckd, and that my symptoms were the same as someone who is affected by sleep apnea. Talk to your doctor about it and maybe have a sleep study done. I’m currently waiting to get my sleep study done.
