I have been prescribed Vitamin D and calcium supplements. What do I need to be careful about with stage 3 CKD?

Your physician should have given you the reasons and if not ask. Regular labs will tell you and your doctor if the dosage is correct.Something to consider is that your doctor felt it was necessary from looking at your lab results. I use a spreadsheet to track all of my labs. Across the top, I list the date and the ordering physician and down the left side, I list the name of the test. If the results for a specific test are within the limits of the reference range I just enter the number on the corresponding box and leave it alone. If the result is higher than the reference range I enter it and highlight it in red. If it's below the reference range I highlight it in a different color. The purpose is that I can then spot a trend and ask questions of the doctor, usually before the doctor sees it and brings it up. If you see different doctors this is important, especially if they don't share information and lab results.

Best of luck.

I take Vitamin D, 2000IU, prescribed by my Doctor, as my D level is low. I am at CKD level 3.

I asked about vit D levels as i learned that kidney patients could be low on vit D, I had blood tests done and was advised to take vit D everyday. I am stage 3b egfr fluctuates between 33 at its lowest and 40 sometimes with levels fluctuating between the two levels. I have a low salt diet, try to avoid processed foods, try to keep hydrated and excersise regularly walking between 20 and 25 miles a week. I am due a telephone consultation in April so will be asking for vit D tests to be added to blood workup see if I need to continue to take the supplements or not.
