Question about Vitamin D and Parathyroid hormone and how it relates to ckd

Hello all, I am new to this community and posting my first question. Any reply to my post would be greatly appreciated.

I have chronic kidney disease with an eGFR of around 40, which would place me at stage 3b. My kidney test results include the 1,25-Dihydroxyvitamin D test, which always shows my level at a normal range. However, reading online it seems that although the 1,25-Dihydroxyvitamin D test may sometimes be used for ckd patients, it is the 25-hydroxyvitamin D test that is the most accurate representation of vitamin D stores. As my hospital doesn't have this test, I went to a clinic to have the 25(OH)D test done, and the result was a 8ng/ml, putting me in the deficient range. When I showed this to my kidney doctor, she completely blew me off and ignored the result, saying that I was fine since 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D is the active form of vitamin D and I am in the normal range. My question is which vitamin D test is more important to ckd and do most of you have them both done or one or the other? Also is it really not a problem that my 25(OH)D is so low as long as 1,25-Dihydroxyvitamin D is fine?

Another question is that PTH is never included in my kidney test results. Should I be having this test done since my 25(OH)D is so low?

Thank you for any reply this would help me greatly.

I wish i could help, but i believe im having similar problems. Not sure what vitamin D test they do on me, but i have been showing low normal; yet, I'm vitamin D deficient. Im taking vitamin D supplements and also calcitriol to regulate (?) Calcium. My PTH lab results were sky high before anyone did anything. Im seeing a new kidney doctor for the 2nd time next week with new lab results and lots of questions. Ill share info if I get any answers. Meanwhile i hope you'll do the same along with anyone else who may have some information. Have a great day.
