Pd clearance question
My hubby is on peritoneal dialysis (PD) so I speak as a caregiver only. In my hubby's case, his nurse and nephrologist tinker with volume, flow, dwell time, and composition (yellow, green, red solutions and their quantity) in coming up with an optimum clearance outcome for removing toxins from his body. Some of these determinants are programmed into our cycler. Only medical staff has the power to do the actual programming which involves a card inserted into the cycler. There are occasional adjustments - the most significant one occurred for us about two months after starting this form of dialysis. My hubby was expected to bring in a bag of used solution, underwent blood tests, etc. This is all normal protocol. Clearance does change and adjustments are made as kidneys generally continue to fail, the peritoneum can change a bit, and so on. So we expect to see these evaluations happening now and then (although with decreasing frequency in our case) as they update all those things over and over again - volume, flow, dwell time, and composition - all of which affects clearance. Hope this helps.
