Which is it?

How do you know if your kidneys are playing up or you have Covid 19. I'm pretty sure it is not Covid as there is no known cases for 102 days and still none known in my local area.

Had a mild head cold 2 weeks ago. Now experiencing pain to the kidney region left side, dizziness, Nausea constantly, pain in the buttocks, weak legs, blurred vision at times, increases froth in urine, increased constipation, light coloured stools, migraines and headaches. Generally feeling like crap for 2 weeks. Under enormous stress at present so can't rule that out either, being house husband to a wife who is post opp.

Going to do the Covid test later today and see a Dr. Will be dumb founded if it comes back positive but taking all precautions to prevent passing it on just in case. Trying desperately not to panic as those around me are, just treating the day as not quit so normal.

Try to relax and wait for the results. If the test is negative let your nephrologist and PCP know of your symptoms and follow their guidance.

Stress is not your friend so do what you must to relax until you have definitive answers.

Just try not to worry about it. Stress is not our friend and can lead to more health problems. Your doctor will get to the bottom of it.

Best wishes for you !

Then of course I could be heading into a bout of the flue! I'm determined not to worry about it, anxiety is not my friend. Went for a covid test and am told I have to book in and wait for 5 hours to get an appointment! I suspect the flue myself or is that hope the flue! Everybody about me is panicking for me. Makes a change for me not panicking, yet.

Did you get the COVID test? Hopefully so🐶

I’m not sure what Stage of CKD you’re in but this could also be kidney related. So definitely check with your nephrologist.

Let us know how it’s going.

It is interesting that I'm not panicking this time, those about me are. I'm clinging on to stage 3b, just, in a dip at the moment. I hope! My thought was kidney possibly but likely a touch of flu and some panic.

It is a long shot it could be Covid 19 but none the less I'm taking all precautions in case I might infect others around me. I have just had my Covid test done and should know tomorrow. I have a strong feeling it will end up being a full on flu bug. My Dr is concerned as there are symptoms not normally associated with the flu. It is likely that the extreme stress I'm under at present is playing a part as well. Mother in law is preparing to shuffle of this mortal earth and the wife is post opp by a week. I'm fill in chief cook, bottle washer and house maid for the next 7 weeks. Actually enjoying it as I have no time to worry about myself for a change.

In this country (NZ) we don't get past the GP until the GFR hits 15, kind of the ambulance at the bottom of the cliff style. I have gone to managing my own health as a consequence with some good results and a couple of positive side effects. My task is to arrest kidney decline and maintain a stable GFR. So far winning the fight although I do have the ups and downs with the kidneys.

Memory is playing up and can't stop falling asleep all day, vertigo is chiming in as well. Can't stop to worry about my health until I get the wife back on deck and her mum has decided what she is doing. I maybe stressed but the anxiety I get is being kept away. No time for it! This could be addictive.

Hi Cheyne,

Your symptoms are not something to just dismiss so I am glad you saw the doctor. And yes, the head cold might indicate you have an infection that has spread and possibly can be taken care of with and antibiotic, dosage appropriate for CKD. It sounds like you have run yourself down. Is there anyone who can come help you with your wife so you can take care of yourself and get some rest, even if it for a day or two.

Let us know what you find out about your tests.

I think it would be important to contact your kidney doctor and hopefully meet wirh him via a telehealth session.

Hey, i had to laugh about your comments about being chef, chief bottle washer and housemaid and getting anxious over these duties. These are what wives have been doing for years and even some had full time jobs! But, enough joking aside, can i suggest you lessen some of these worries by having soup and sandwiches for salad or lunch and dinner and leaving the dishes to clean for later. The same with housework. Nothing is going to happen if you dont do it right away. In time, you'll become better organized. Instead sit with your wife and relax. Talk, watch some fun movies, play cards or games, nap, or just reminiscence. These days are precious and you both need this bonding.

And, why do I think you're someone who is reluctant to ask for help? ASK friends, family, neighbors . Most people would ne happy to help even with little things like picking up groceries or sending over a casserole.

You seem to be in some sort of medical crisis.

Please keep in touch with your doctor and be persistent. You have too much on your plate.

Keep all of us up to date. We're here for you with support and love and pray that today starts for things to get better. Remember things can get overwhelming only if we let them.

I appreciate the support, it isn't available in NZ for CKD people, your on your own until it is too late. I guess I'm not quite your typical male having been doing the house work for years. Let's face it, I make at least half of the mess why not clean up at least that half, seemed only reasonable to me years ago. With arthritis I have taken on a house keeper for doing the floors and wet areas. She is very inexpensive which reflects in the quality of the vacuuming, but in all other areas she does a real good job. I'm getting value for the money so I just whisk the vac around after she leaves. Have a gardener that keeps the lawns mowed so life isn't so painful anymore. Oddly enough I'm just out of a bout of depression and am not having the problems that caused. When I have to get off my butt and do things the mind is diverted and does not feel the anxiety, just no time to do that. Probably why I'm kind of enjoying the moment. The one big disadvantage s all the cups of tea I make myself without the tea! Well got to get my sample into the lab and get the laundry done, get the wife showered and then make another hot cup of water! All that will remain is meals and waiting for Covid result, oh yes must make the wife take her BP and chart it somewhere in between today.

Keeping busy that's my remedy for now.

Not Covid 19, not kidneys. Typical response all about what it isn't, nothing about what it is.

Feel a little better today and guess it is more likely I have had the flu without the drippy nose and sneezing. Just a mild head cold and a lot of pain around the waist and legs. Teach me for refusing this seasons flu shot!

Finally getting to the bottom of the issues. Reaction to medications causing several side effects mimicking the symptoms of flu and covid 19. Now waiting to see what damage has been done to my kidney function through this.
