Frothy Urine with White Particles Sometime

Hi. I am male, 26, single. In last week of February, I noticed some bubbles in my urine. This was the first time, so just to be on a safer side, I got urinalysis which came out negative. Going ahead one month, the entire month say foamy urine 2 or 3 times. At times I had stopped the pee, drank less water, so just to be sure, I went ahead and got 24 hours protein in last week of March which came out negative. Apart from these foamy urine 2 or 3 times in month of March/April, most of the times the urine was either normal or had very few bubbles which would vanish in a couple of seconds. Now, it's may, and for the past week I am again seeing very small bubbles cluttered and forming a white mucus like substance. I also saw some white particles / speckles on the bowl once or twice. I have no other symptoms, but I'm afraid of this foaminess. Am I headed towards something dangerous? I often have elevated BP. That's all. Thanks in advance.

We are not doctors. What exactly are your physicians, like a urologist telling you? There are several things it can be and you seem to be worried about this without much information on the specifics from the ordering physicians. If they are all saying it's nothing, why are you still worried? Is your seeing this always at home? How clean is the bowl? Are you the only one who uses it?

We don't diagnose here and without more details, we can't offer more.

Doctor thinks that everything is fine. But I'm worried because foaminess is there. It happens only in my washroom, and sometimes in one other washroom as well. Bowl is always clean.

Again, other than using the word 'normal' did you ask what they looked for in each test? Having foamy urine from time to time is normal. Think about the speed (force) of the stream. Did a doctor, hopefully, a urologist, say anything about your protein level, high blood pressure, diabetes, kidneys?

Those are some of the issues that could, I repeat, could be an issue. Did any ordering physician also order accompanying blood tests? I've met one person who said he always waited until the last minute to go to the bathroom and always had a forceful stream and was never given a medical cause for the foam.

Before you get too worked up about this try doing some additional online research into this. If nothing else you should be able to develop more questions for your doctor(s).

Best of luck.

One other item I forgot to mention. The white particles in the urine could be related to what's called a genital discharge. Bring this up go a knowledgeable physician as it could be a UTI.

Hello there, Sallu123. Mr. Kidney has very good advice there. We can’t actually say for certain what it could be. We can only suggest. The foam you’re seeing could be anything. It could be leftover residue from your toilet cleanser, or as Mr. Kidney suggested, a slight urinary tract infection, or the speed of the stream.

In some cases, foam could mean protein in the urine, but if you’ve been tested, and the results are negative, there really isn’t anything for you to be worried about. Try drinking more water daily. This will help to flush your system. Speak with your doctor about how much water you should be taking in daily (you don’t want to overdo it). Have you been tested for a urinary tract / bladder infection? If not, ask your doctor for one. If it is an infection, you’ll want to address that sooner rather than later.

You’re a young man. If these tests have been conducted with negative results, you shouldn’t be wasting your youth / time fretting over non-existent issues. Also, if you suspect a urinary tract / bladder infection, try drinking some cranberry juice everyday. This can also be helpful.

And if you’re somewhat concerned about your high blood pressure, do try to lessen your sodium intake, and consume foods that are a little higher in potassium. Potassium is helpful in lowering blood pressure. If you’re on medication for high blood pressure, be sure to take it everyday, at roughly the same time. This will allow the meds to regulate your BP better. Also, if you’re not already on an exercise regimen, try to incorporate some walking into your daily routine. This also helps a person to de-stress.

I hope you find this little bit of advice helpful. I would hate to think that you’re wasting your time worrying, when you should be enjoying your life. I made that mistake when I was around your age. Believe me, it’s not worth it. Please do keep us posted on your progress. I wish you all my best, dear. Take good care of yourself! God bless. 😊👍

Thanks, your advice means a lot. I hope this foaminess is of no significance. Have a great day!

Just one quick question:

If foaminess is caused by protein, should it be consistent? I mean should not the urine have protein every time or is it possible to have normal urine at times too?

The reason I ask this question is because I got 24 hours protein 2 months back, when this started and it came back negative. My question is that is it possible that protein came negative randomly or if the protein had been the issue, it would definitely have been there? I hope you get my question. Thanks for your support!
