Hi there, Blueeyes68. We can’t diagnose anything here, but we can suggest some possibilities. If you have any redness, swelling, and if these areas are warm or hot to the touch, it could possibly be gout. Have you ever been told by your doctors that your uric acid levels are high? If so, then gout could be a possibility.

Sometimes, as in my case, people with CKD can develop gout (chronic, in my case since menopause), as the kidney function declines and no longer filters and regulates the acids properly. That’s what I was told by 2 different rheumatologists once, while I was hospitalized a few years back.

You should try to get a hold of your PCP’s office and speak to them, or even a telephone, or online health service. If you explain your situation to them, they may be able to direct you properly and offer some helpful advice. I’m sorry that I couldn’t help you better than this. But if it is a gout attack, there is medication called Colchicine that they can prescribe for you, and other meds that may be beneficial to you. Remember also, that not always does a gout attack come with every single symptom that I’ve listed above. Sometimes, it may just be swollen, and not hot to the touch, or not always red either. Have them look into this. Don’t wait.

Please take good care of yourself and do keep me posted on your progress. All my best to you, dear. I’ll keep you in my prayers. God bless. 🙏😊👍

Hi again Blueeyes68! Sorry, I forgot to mention a few other things that may be helpful to you. If you suspect that this may be a gout flare up, you should try to stay away from alcohol, whole grains, any type of fish, especially shellfish of any kind, red meat, anything high in vitamin C, and basically keep a diet low in protein, which is really what a CKD diet is all about anyway. Stay hydrated as well. This will also help your GFR numbers go up, as well as aiding you in case this is a gout issue.

Once again, all my best to you. 🙏😊👍

TAKE CARE

Before I was diagnosed and changed my lifestyle I had terrible leg pains every night. It was from the acid build up in my blood. Since changing my diet and lifestyle plus my doctor ordered me to take sodium bicarb I no longer have these annoying pains in my legs. Ask your doctor if taking sodium bicarb may assist you with your leg cramps.
