I have stage 3 CKD and am very worried about coronavirus. Fortunately, my employer is allowing all employees to work from home now due to coronavirus. However, I know there will be a point where employees will be expected to go back to the office. I am afraid I won’t feel comfortable going back when they want me to, since there could be multiple waves of coronavirus. I asked my nephrologist (left a message with his nurse) if he would write me a note that I could give my employer (or maybe use for FMLA). The nurse told me that “there are no guidelines” for this, and I should ask my primary care doctor. Naturally, my primary care doctor doesn’t understand why my nephrologist is referring me to him for this. Has anyone else requested a doctor’s note, and if so, what was the nephrologist’s response? Thanks.

Hi Leslie,
One moment at a time. Remember that the nurses or assistants are often the front line for the doctors.
I am glad that you have a FMLA in place as it is invaluable.
Right now we all are on stay at home and your employer is compliant.
Before you go back to work do a telecommunication or make an appointment with your nephrologist and speak to him/ her personally discussing your individual case and what is best for you.
In the meantime, sit tight.
Hope this helps.
