Considering the news surrounding Coronavirus (also referred to as COVID-19), we have prepared a guide for people with kidney disease that highlights the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations to prevent spread of the virus as well as emergency preparedness and nutrition tips. kidney.org/contents/be-prep...
CDC recommends:
•Stay home if you feel sick or have any symptoms (fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills).
•Avoid others who are sick. Limiting face-to-face contact with others as much as possible.
•Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue, then throw it in the trash can. If you don't have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve, not your hands.
•Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds; especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
oIf you don’t have soap and water, use hand sanitizer with 60%-95% alcohol.
•Routinely clean frequently touched surfaces and objects
•Avoid touching your face, especially your nose and mouth.
•Wear a facemask if advised to do so by your healthcare professional or by a public health official.
The Kidney Coalition for Emergency Response (KCER) is also monitoring the situation and posting updates at kcercoalition.com/en/alerts.... Information for people on dialysis, including hotlines and additional preparedness tips can be found at kcercoalition.com/en/patients/.

Can I, basically echo, your 'Post' but, from a British point of view. If you feel unwell call 111, DON'T actually 'Go' to your Doctors. If you believe, that you have Corona Virus, quarantine yourself, ask friends and family to Shop for you...Leaving the 'Stuff' Outside your door. If you develop Serious Symptoms, call 999 or you own GP- Don't go to A & E. Wash you hands, long enough to sing 'Happy Birthday' twice (or old MacDonald, with three animals).
Don't be Paranoid but Do be careful. Do get a sense of Perspective...Seasonal 'Flu is, at least as Transmissible, is apparently more Deadly- certainly it kills more people, year on year. Your chances, of actually catching Covid19 (Corona Virus) remain small (though increasing Daily) and, simple Hand Hygiene, IS VERY Effective in Stopping the spread. Admittedly IF, any of us, DO catch this virus, we are at an increased risk of complications and are, as far as we can tell, more likely to get a more 'Serious' disease.
All that said.... The NHS, is 'Well Equipped' to deal with this- not yet officially declared- 'Pandemic' and in a years time- probably much less- a vaccine will, almost certainly, be available.
To quote Dad's Army, in a somewhat more serious vein, 'Don't Panic'.....
My GP practice stopped doing any blood tests 18 months ago and not allowing access to the practice when I was CKD 3 with GFR of 45. Been feeling really ropey this past few months with breathlessness so managed to get a blood test with my GP in full scrubs with one of those helmets that cover the face with a breathing tube running down his back and they have shown that I am now a stage 4 with a GFR of 19. Suddenly he is super interested in me and I wonder if he scared that the practice could be at fault by not checking every 6 months - I think they are .
