Lee Hull book : Thanks for the recommendation... - Kidney Disease
Lee Hull book
I would caution that before you start a diet or make changes to your present diet for CKD, to contact your Doctor for approval. A Kidney diet is normally geared to the requirements of each patients needs based on blood work. IMO
As OC stated, there is no one size fits all meal plan for CKD patients. Anyone selling a book or a single philosophy for reigning in CKD is pushing snake oil. An RD with copies of your lab values is the best/main way to help you slow the progression of CKD.
Lee Hull's book is a godsend!!! 3 months on his dietary recommendations my blood work is as follows: GFR 56 to 76! creatinine 1.3 to 1.0 and cholesterol 207 to 145. I went to a Registered Nutritionist to make sure my diet was in balance and I was getting enough protein. He said that if everyone followed this diet he would be out of business. Hull's diet can be adjusted to conform to each persons' needs based on their blood work. In my opinion, based on actual results, I would not consider this book snake oil, or based on a single philosophy especially since the book is based on the results of literally hundreds of scientific studies researching diet and CKD.
If it worked for you that's terrific. If it worked for everyone then there wouldn't be other options. All we are saying is that there isn't a one size fits all and anyone who claims that is being disingenuous.
I see this free resource as mainly making me a more informed partner in my treatment plan, not rely on ignorant GP's or dietitians but seek more expert advice
