Anyone had cortical thinning? Is it dangerous?

Today I was told I had cortical thinning noted in both kidneys, I was referred to a nephrologist, in the mean time they gave me very little information on what this means? Besides that it was most likely caused by infections and scarring. Is this dangerous?
