Try drinking more water. As we age, we do not feel the need to drink as much but with CKD you need to keep up with your water intake. It will also help to prevent UTIs.
I am 78 and was diagnosed at age 74 with CKD level 3b. My Doctor put me on a CKD diet tailored to my eGFR and other blood work results (sodium, phosphorus and potassium). So far progression has slowed down. Be sure to have questions to ask your Doctor.
Funny, was thinking about you the other day. Happy to see you back on the forum!
My thoughts, I would see what the labs reveal - print them out and check off areas of concern or flags and discuss them at your appointment.
I would also try to think of a time line when you noticed the changes in your urine etc. and write it down so that the doctor can try to put together a pattern.
I would also write down a list of what you are eating regularly and about how much in each food group
( including any supplements) and bring it to the appointment for discussion. It makes things easier as the doctor can see on paper what you are consuming ; specifically salty snacks ( do you still love pretzels?).
I would also let her know that you were recently on vacation and note separately what you ate and drank. When you travel the water is different and sticking to a routine is also more challenging.
As far as a dietician, ask who handles the kidney patients in your hospital and speak to them.
If Davita is not in your area, try to locate the nearest one - if you can take a road trip to attend class and connect with their dietician - they may be willing to email to you. Ask.
Please reach back and let us know how things went- and most importantly remember that you are addressing things and not sitting on them!
When I had a brain mri oct 1 my gfr was 60. Nov 5 after my mid-oct vacation it was 47. My diet was almost exactly the same except for the trip between. Last week with the cloudy urine was when i had the lab test for my upcoming appt.
I still eat pretzels but have added sunflower seeds as a daytime snack.
I had no reason for uti concern till that test.
I know i need to be patient but ...
Im still working and am a little paranoid about getting a long call and needing to get to the bathroom when needed. So i go more frequently.
I have upcoming knee surgery in feb. i decided to just get it over with and not deal with it at 85 or so.
I hope youre doing better and things are settling down for you.
As mentioned, take your labs and note when you saw the changes as well as what you saw and bring it with you. Symptoms.
Vacation food - absolutely! If you are eating differently it is important that the doctor be aware. ( A FYI)
If you question UTI, I am sure that it will be looked into.
Glad that you are still enjoying your job and otherwise sound good.
Changes here but I am always on the move doing different things.
Sit tight on all of this if your appointment is soon; if not, give a call and ask if they can move you up or at least do a sample for a UTI. Why should you be uncomfortable at work.
Yes, like others have said, could also be a sign that you are NOT drinking enough water. Usually when you have a UTI you will have burning and or frequency
Write down on paper when this occurred and describe what you saw. Then write down anything else you have, like urinary pain with the date. Often when we get to the doctor we forget what happened.
