need help understanding dialysis
Why are you there? What is your GFR, creatinine ? Have you always had a fear of the needles? Maybe you have been dealing with someone incompetent. Lots more information please.

If you have pain when doing dialysis, something is wrong. You need to call your nephrologist ASAP, and tell him or his nurse what is going on. YOU should NOT be having pain. Yes when the needle goes through the skin, but once in fistula or graft there should be no pain.

After the needle insertion there should be no more pain. Are you saying it still hurts at the needle site the entire dialysis treatment? If so, then something may be wrong. Have you asked or spoken to your nurse or nephrologist about this? Have you tried lidocaine prior to cannulation? How about the EMLA cream? Where exactly is the pain? We need more information in order to help. Please respond. Amy (dialysis nearly 18 years)
