What a fabulous question. It made me look up information. Although what I found was pretty technical, this was important: "These data suggest that kidney function is a determinant of HDL and triglyceride concentrations in patients with CKD"
Why I liked your question is because I have always had high triglycerides, although my cholesterol was not high. My Dr. felt it had a lot to do with family history as my father had issues with lipids. However, a year ago it was horribly high. Now, I have dropped it over 600 points just with diet. I follow a low fat renal diet. Although I never ate red meat at all, I did consume chicken in great quantities. No more. I limit protein to veggies and eggs (whites) and cheese in moderation. No fried foods and I limit my carbs as well. I dropped over 30 pounds and all my labs have improved.
I've heard of kidney disease causing high lipids, but not high lipids causing kidney disease. Also, you said above that your triglycerides are ~ 8? That seems extremely low. Did you mean 800 (mg/dL)? A low fat, low protein diet is said to slow the progression of CKD.
