I have known that my right kidney was shrinking due to an US that revealed cortical thinning. At the time, my internist was not concerned, for my GFR was 58 or 59 and my creatinine was within normal range.
I went to the nephrologist today and showed him the US. He ordered bilateral US's to see if the left kidney is shrinking as well. The radiologist never revealed the measurements of my right kidney in 2014.
If one's kidneys are shrinking, is it usually more progressive than if someone had CKD from diabetes or hypertension?
The doctor would not tell me much until he receives the results of my labs and US's but my appointment isn't until January 11th and I will be hysterical by then.
Do any of you have kidneys that are thinning or shrinking? Is this unusual?
Thanks!
