Having CKD: What does having chronic kidney... - Kidney Disease
Having CKD
Basically, it means that your kidneys have begun to lose function. Usually, it is a slow process but in some cases, it can come on quickly. A lot depends on how long you've had it without knowing and what stage you are in and finally, how willing you are to make the changes you need to make in order to slow down the progression. What other health issues do you currently have that have contributed to it, like hypertension and diabetes, and what you are doing to control those issues.
I assume your doctor gave you the diagnosis. Where did s/he say you were and what suggestions were you given?
In any case, there are several websites you can go to to find out more information. You've found one with this site but some others are davita.org and aakp.org and finally nkf.org That should get you started and on the Davita website you can check on a free class in your area that will provide you with a lot of information to further help you along.
I was diagnosed at level 3 about 2 years ago. It was a shock. I had symptoms but had no idea problem was CKD. To me it is a lifestyle change, not only in diet but activities. Finding things have to be in balance.
