hello! I was diagnosed with glomerulonephritis 4 months ago and still under corticosteroid treatment. At the moment my gfr is at 81 and my creatinine is at 1.26. no protein in urine though I have +1 blood in my urine and leukocytes. My biggest concern is that over the course of 4 months my hemoglobin and rbc kept dropping. Does anyone have the same case as I have right now? I am extremely worried.
Hemoglobin keeps dropping!: hello! I was... - Kidney Disease
Hemoglobin keeps dropping!
Very happy with my gfr though this anemia is really annoying. I feel very week everyday.
So the drop would indicate anemia which you are already aware of. Does your doctor have you on iron supplements or anything to control the anemia? What does he/she say about the drop. Apparently anemia is quite common for kidney patients especially females.
It sounds like you are in early stages, and the medicine is controlling things. It's great you are aware of and following your tests. After you speak with your doctor, you'll feel better.
By the way, what type of glomerulonephritis do you have? If it is IGA Nephropathy, there have been studies done that show going gluten free and avoiding any foods or substances that you are intolerant to can help the disease slow down the progression. I believe it is linked only to IGA N though and not other forms.
Let us know what the doctor says.
Wishing you healing and blessings
Yes, I have been on iron supplements since I was diagnosed. My doctors haven't figured out what type of glomerulonephritis I have and the only way to know for sure is to have a biopsy. However, he did say that at the moment there is no need to do a biopsy since I am responding well to the treatment.
Hey there. Your gfr and creatnine numbers are good! When I became anemic, I added a little spinach into my morning breakfast smoothies and it really helped out. Helps steer clear of some of the side effects of taking an iron supplement. I'd ask your care provider if it's time for an iron supplement and how you can best attack the dropping hemoglobin. Try to stay positive!
