After a long break I decided I should get back to getting healthy again. I decided to stick to one breakfast, repeating it doesn't bother me, but wanted to ask what others thought as most info I've found seems to point to me doing all the right things. To start I have 1 turmeric capsual and take it with 5 black peppercorns along with a glass of grapefruit juice. I then have porridge, never liked it so I started adding my own ingredients to make it taste better. and now over time I've reached to the point i'm concerned if i'm adding too much. to the porridge oats I add Raisins, spices (just under 1/2 teaspoon of each)... ginger, cinnamon and nutmeg I also add asda 4 seeds ( a dessertspoon) which are Pumpkin, Hemp sunflower and golden linseed and finally a few almonds chopped up. I then add water that I previously boiled before adding ingredients and before it all gets lumpy and gooey I add some cold milk. I try to get to walking 10 miles or so 3 times per week this past week though I've only managed 2 of those walks and weigh 213.8lb / 96.97kg / 15.27st

Hi and welcome, WhiteFoxWolf :)

I, personally, don't eat breakfast at all and certainly wouldn't be bothered with one as seemingly complicated as yours, but if you enjoy it, why not have it. I would only drop the raisins, as dried fruit is mainly sugar. Add some fresh berries for sweetness, if you need it.

However, breakfast is just one meal in a day, so I hope you're paying as much attention to your other meals, as that will be important, if you're to successfully lose weight and maintain it.

Hi WhiteFoxWolf

I love the sound of your breakfast, it sounds delicious. I tend to have a 'complicated breakfast' - as I love adding lots of things to mine. Hope you're having a great week.

weeks going great so far. I got bored with having Weetabix cornflakes and shredded wheat there's nothing to them someone suggested porridge I told them I never liked it and they said the same but liked it more when they added their own things to it so I tried that and it worked. Also makes me wonder if I could start finding ways I could add celery cucumber and tomatoes to my meals as these are other things I've never liked

Hi WhiteFoxWolf

That's great to hear you enjoyed your breakfast more, having tried something new - I have also found my taste buds have changed as I try different things - e.g. I used to hate mushrooms, but like them now. Celery was never my favourite thing, but I enjoy some now and again now - and yeast extract is another thing that I've found I used to dislike and now I enjoy it.

Hope you enjoy your meals and choices this week, and that you have a great week.

Zest :-)

Most importantly, are you now enjoying your porridge breakfast? IMO life is too short to make ourselves eat something we don't really like , and I wonder what else have you tried as your satisfying first meal of the day? Some of us eat at 7am and some of us not until 12 , but I'd suggest you try adding eggs to your menu as they're so versatile : it takes only a few minutes to cook and eat 2 boiled eggs , and only a bit more time for a tasty omelette full of chopped veggies and cheese. Or some days if I'm pushed for time I just eat a whole avocado or a pot of Greek yoghurt with some nuts .. all of these are full of healthy fats and will keep you satisfied for several hours.

the omelette sounds great and never thought about having veggies with them . Boiled eggs I might incorporate them as a midday snack with a slice of wholemeal bread as the porridge usually fills me up enough and don't normally have anything till evening time so this could be a new thing to take onboard

You can put almost anything in an omelette. Yesterday I made a 3 egg omelette with assorted leftover veg: onion, red peppers, courgette, tomato and spinach plus 25g of grated cheese. I had mine for a filling brunch but anytime is ok .
