My (almost) 5 month old isn't rolling yet and hates tummy time.

My little boy is 21+1 weeks today and still shows absolutely no interest in rolling over and will only do tummy time for couple of minutes before screaming, no matter what I do to entertain him.

He loves sitting up, playing with toys and can stand unaided, but his upper body, (especially around his shoulders) seems weak. Me and hubby both have strong legs and weak upper body, plus I have very loose joints (hypermobility disorder), so I wondered if it might be genetic? He is developing normally otherwise, has been laughing and smiling more, and more, since 3 months; he is very alert, babbles, squeals, blows raspberries and blows bubbles constantly. Plus I discovered recently that he'll sit and listen intently to a 3+ book, so maybe he really just isn't bothered about rolling. Me and hubby are Autistic, so we suspect our beautiful boy may be the same.

I cannot help worrying that something might be wrong, does this sound normal? Do you think we need to be concerned? Any recommendations?

My LG didn’t roll until 5 months and that was only one side for a while and she absolutely hated tummy time so I wouldn’t worry. They all do things at different rates x

Hi, my little boy is 21 weeks today and he hates tummy time and isn’t rolling over. I wouldn’t worry, they all do things at there own pace. My twins didn’t crawl until nearly 12 months then in a fortnight they crawled and then walked unaided just before their 1st birthday. Sounds like your doing a great job, but if you are still concerned when you next see the health visitor mention it, but I’m sure she will tell you everything is fine xx

My little boy is nearly 5 months and had no interest in rolling over and too hates tummy time!! He will sit and play though and can sit unaided only for a few seconds though but he’s getting better!!!

I work with babies and they all develop differently, but I’ve no concerns with my little one! They’ll do it when their ready xx

I think I did a similar post to this as my little boy didn’t roll over until around 6 months but once he did he soon realised how to get moving. He’s now 8 months and commando crawling all over the place so easier said than done but try not to worry x

My LG (now 17 months) didn’t roll until she was about 9 months. She was sitting at 4, pulling herself up and cruising at 7/8 months but not rolling till 9 months. Crawled soon after and walking at 12 months. She’s now on the go constantly, basically my point is don’t worry too much, he’s not abnormal, from what I was told, they all do things in their own time. And from my experience in no logical order.

My daughter isn’t rolling at 5 months /21 weeks either... yet. She used to hate tummy time, detested it but she is happy with it now. I had some worries when she was 17 weeks that she wasn’t grabbing or batting at things but she grabs with a vengeance now. I’m not worried about her lack of rolling. She will do it when she’s ready xx
