Is black greeny poo normal?

My 8 week old has been on cow and gate colic and constipation milk for 2 days now, producing a black, greeny stool paste like in texture, is this normal? My baby had been on sma pro before and have swapped due to tummy issues after trialing a lot of different remedies. Please does anyone have any advice on this. Thank you x

my boy in sma pro he had dark green poo and I had to take a pic of his poo and show my hv said he was lactose intolerance and he is in colief drops.

have you asked your hv she might tell you what it is or you could go speak to your gp, but if you changed milk then they might be lactose intolerance bur I would defo speak to your hv or gp x

Ok thank you. It’s only since he’s been on the cow and gate that his poo has gone like this bizarre! But he does seem better in himself less griping so I don’t know wether it’s the changeover. Who knows! Will contact my hv. Thanks x

Normally well for my baby means that he has been backed up for a few days and it's a windy stool. X

Black poos no.

Sometimes breastfed babies can have green poos. This is normal and not a problem. Poos are usually loose and yellow though. Formula can cause constipation so sometimes babies given formula have much harder poos than this. But they shouldn’t be black.

These special formulas are not proven to do anything. All you need to use is normal first stage milk. You might want to watch the programme that was on a couple of weeks ago called the Great formula milk scandal. All of that type of thing is just marketing.

Has your baby had their jabs this week? I was told to take baby to GP if they had black poos after jabs x

My baby had problems with Cow and gate too, colic and constipation, I changed to Aptamil and the anti colic bottles and she was much better. I can't remember ever seeing black poo though, I would contact your doctor.

My little girl had dark green poos on normal milk and hypoallergenic milk, it was down to her milk intolerance and they are now a normal yellow paste on prescription milk. I would contact your HV and keep an eye on your little one, you’ll know if the milk is wrong by their temperament 😊

Rang hv this morning, she said it’s normal when switching, because he’s a lot more calmer she’s saying just stick with this milk. Thanks for you input guys! X

Our son was on Cow and Gate (he's now on full fat milk as he's 1). We had absolutely no problems on it. He did however have funny green poo at one point when he was around 9 weeks old. He was actually teething! Which can affect their poos xx

Ok thank you I’ll bare that in mind. They are going back lighter now which is good and the gripy tummy is very little now. So I’m glad I’ve made this switch 😊 my happy baby is back! X
