the technician had to press down quiet hard to get the right angles- i am a bit overweight, may be thats why. It was painful and my abdomen was tender during and after. I am still sore after 24hours and starting to worry. Is it normal?

is it normal to be sore after (external) ultrasound?
I hear from people who are more sensitive to EMF that every time they had a scan they had cramps. Albeit miniscule, US does heat up the scanned areas. We might decline 12wks scan or ask them to do nothing more than checking if the baby is still alive as we had a viability scan at 6wks and know it's a normal pregnancy.
There is a lot of information about your rights in maternity care on Birthrights' website.
Hi QueenKoala, I’m always sore after those external scans, and think I’m just sensitive to the gel they use, if I have a shower to wash it off as soon as I’m home that helps. I don’t think it’s anything to worry about, it should disappear soon.
Hey sorry to hear your experience was such, I remember that was my first experience with my forst child and I was aching and bruised. I'm chubby but they didn't need to press that hard at all. My scans after that they were all gentle.
When you go for your next scan if they press too hard just ask them to ease abit as it's hurting you. I told my self I would tell them but I didn't have to. Don't be afraid to tell them if it's hurting you, sometimes they don't realise they are being abit vigorous x
Am 32week pregnant nd every time av been see midwife or have scan am always sore it is normal as feel lyk they press dead hard but because your tender just being pregnant hope this helps xx
