Just another MS symptom?

I have the dino -Multiple Sclero-saurus - in the picture as a pin, Teen 1 got it for me for my birthday, but it is so tiny, you'd have to be in my personal space to read it!! I am eventually going to get the sticker, just have to figure out what I'd put it on first!

I have been feeling extra achy, and my muscles are very sore... Then as I was climbing the stairs up from the basement I had a sharp, awful pain in my left thigh (left is my weaker, more painful side) and just about couldn't make it up the stairs! Rested on the first floor for a bit, then tried the stairs up to the 2nd floor to my bedroom, and had to take the stairs one a time, my left thigh was so painful, it would barely hold any weight because the pain when I did try a stair with it was just too much. Then, the pain went to my whole leg. My calf hurt just as bad as my thigh. I ended up using one of my canes to get around in the house and having to wait till the next morning for a shower. I usually don't use a cane in the house, just use the walls and furniture as needed...

It still hurts today, but not quite that bad. Though I have a feeling that if I keep trying to use the stairs it will get that bad again (I plan on staying mostly away from the stairs today!). Yesterday was towards the end of the day when that happened. My left leg and arm are extra painful today and everything is achy. My skin feels more sensitive. Everything hurts, but especially my left leg, arm, and shoulder. I don't have a fever or anything like that.

So my question, do you think this an MS thing, or should I go see my PCP? I am seeing my new MS neurologist the following week (I finally got the call back and got in! They make new appointments quick!), so I would not have long to wait if I need to ask her. If I really have to, I can ask my current neuro on the portal - don't really want to do that, but if I need to I can. Or does this not sound like an MS thing and I should see my PCP? I'm still in my first year, and feeling things out, so it's hard to figure out which doctor to see and when! Thanks so much for any feedback!🧡

Definitely see your PCP. Maybe they can prescribe pain meds, or give you a way of removing the pins and needles, in the interim before you see the neurologist.

*they may also prescribe you a short course of methylprednisolone (steroids) to tide you over.

Are there any more definite, MS-y symptoms? Like weakness? Or the feeling of any muscles being tight?

Weakness yes, I tried to use my cane to help me get around the house, but figured it was useless to do so, because I feel so weak. But the pain in my thigh is awful, I crossed my legs at the ankle just now, not thinking about it, and the stabbing pain started in the same place as it did going up the stairs.

I should have said potential MS symptoms. But you know what, if you're more comfortable with your primary, why not contact them. The worst that can happen is they say to talk to the neuro, but they .might actually be able to help.

I don't think either doc would be wrong, but a neurologist would hopefully know MS symptoms better. Sorry, it sounds like you don't want to ask that one. I hope that whoever you call, you get some relief! ❤️

If it was me, I'd call the PCP. It *could* be MS anyway, but it doesn't really fit.

I would call my PCP first and get their opinion. Also, you may get some relief until you see the new Neuro. Hope you get some relief. I have actually experienced this, but it was before my MS diagnosis, so I don't know if it was or wasn't MS.

Don't just assume it's your MS - a sudden onset like you've described makes it more likely to be something else e.g. an awkward movement which has put pressure on a nerve in your back or elsewhere. If it doesn't settle in a few days go and see your PCP.

Even if it was MS related steroids are unlikely to be prescribed (or a sensible option) given that they are used much more cautiously these days due to their negative effects on bone density with even fairly "low" levels of usage.

I did go ahead and go to my PCP today and she ran some tests and has some labs going. I'm messaging my current neuro too, as my PCP doesn't want me to wait till my MS neuro appt next week (will be my first time seeing the MS neuro, so happy to be going!)
