Me either.......... and I've been given plenty of opportunities.ππ
Have you learned the secrets?: Me either... - My MSAA Community
Have you learned the secrets?
Ahh, we have a roads scholar in training, falalalala ? π
π π
Would you say that you've gained some street smarts since signing up for MS?π
That would be a bit of a stretch, falalalala , but I have discovered alternate methods of getting around! π
Ah, the secret I found was there is tiny little matter that floats just above the ground. Its invisible & once in a while it will bunch up together & trip me so that I can do a face plant just like the picture. π€π
Not on the road, but I have recently found an uneven part of the floor in a Wetherspoons (gastropub chain in the UK, known for its cheap drinks and food as well as a disabled toilet.) I was with my carer, but I told her to stay sat at our table while I went to the toilet, walking with just my stick. Coming back, I walked, what I thought was the safest route, along the bar. Found the uneven floor, tripped, tried to stay up by dropping my stick and holding the bar, but both legs gave up so I hit my chin on the bar before going down. My carer saw, and came rushing to see if I ok before helping me back to our table. To make it more embarrassing a gent, who I attended a couple of community stuff at the town's library a few months back, saw me fall. He came rushing to me, again to see if I was alright, as well as informing me that there was an uneven part of the floor. Good man, because he remembered that I have MS, despite only seeing me 2 times!
So, a bar told me some secrets π€·ββοΈ
Public falling in a bar is very suspicious....
I'm glad you're alright.ππ
ohhhh that makes me hurt to see this π I remember more than one roller skating incident and bike wreck.. maybe I shouldβve listened a little closer to what the asphalt was telling meβ¦
I always ask for secrets while face down and legs up, don't you?
βDown goes Frazierβ is the expression my friends and family say when Iβm secret searching. Truly needed a smile today so thank you falalalala. ππΌ Really enjoyed and giggled at the replies.
Does anyone else falalalala π€£ backward more than forward? Canβt blame that on an uneven floor. I donβt fall a lot but then, what is a lot? π§ Lately when I fall forward for some reason my arms donβt get the message to go out to break my fall. Iβm sure that looks really odd and it doesnβt feel good either. π€
Maybe I should be looking into a new mobility device. Currently itβs wall walk at home and cane or walker outside home.
Hope today is a good day for you! π«§βοΈπ
Thanks!
I use a rollator at home and it works well for the most part.
The surprise falls never give one enough time to flap around before landing, do they?
It really takes the fun out of it.π π
Hi! My main goal is to not break a hip. In my experience, over a certain age, healthy or not, you donβt recover from it, you donβt ever return to your own home independently again and vast majority of the time a broken hip has followed a pattern.
You fall and canβt get up. Sometimes laying stranded for hours or days. Unable to move an inch because the pain feels like your being pinned to the floor by a large red hot poker that keeps getting hit by a hammer (grandmothers description). Next is hospitalization, surgeries, therapies. Followed by discharge to rehab center and a lot more painful therapy. Meanwhile, if you have any money or possessions, it will be depleted. Finally, you get pneumonia, rehospitalized, put on ventilator and then slowly die.
Seriously scary stuff that Iβve seen over and over again. I attempt to balance safety, mobility and independence. Then just standing there not doing anything, my knee buckles and βDown goes Frazier!β.
So everyone please be mindful of those rugs, clutter, steps, no handrails, curbs, corners, wheels/brakes, etc., etc.,. Basically air is all it takes.
Hope today is a good one for everyone. Iβm actually having my 4th good day in a row!
That's good!
I haven't been hospitalized for a fall (just other thingsπ ) but they are the reason that both my shoulders and a knee are messed up
.Falling both up and down the stairs will accomplish that.
I've had my knee buckle as well. No warning at all.
I've also fallen to the ground after taking a Copaxone shot. Ironic that a prescribed med to help MS knocked me on my ass unable to breathe.
I don't wish to fall but I can't live in fear of it.One does have to be mindful for sure but sometimes that even fails.
I've had a few where I couldn't get up. The dog got my husband to help me up.When he is not here I plan activities accordingly.
It's just the way it is.....unless I'm feeling luckyπ
As a strange example of the opposite end of the spectrum, my 86 year old mom in law with dementia broke her hip and within a month was picked up by the police a mile and half from home. ....without her cane!π€―
