I'm sorry I wish I could help. But it's only me that suffers from MS in my family. I wanted to let you know, so you didn't feel like ignored by the chat room. Fancy59.

Hi, Masis1960. I don't know how helpful this is, but when I was married to my late husband he had two sisters with MS. One did not do well and eventually had quite severe disease(both women were diagnosed before the advent of disease modifying therapies for MS). One is currently in her 70's and is doing great. She had a lot of fatigue and the occasional relapse, but was able to work until retirement age and is pretty active.

When I was diagnosed in 2001, I knew what the extremes were and figured I would probably land somewhere in the middle, which thankfully has been the case thus far.

Perhaps if you have questions about specific things from the patients' point of view you would get more responses? Like asking what family members did for them to help out or make them feel better.

I also hope you hear from someone with the perspective you're looking for. It's really hard to see a family member struggling with illness and I'm sure you could use some support as well. I wish you and your loved one the best.

my mother had MS for my whole life. i really wish we communicated about it more and i wish i knew as a kid to help her feel less shame b/c of MS. i now have MS and have had to work on not feeling ashamed about it (i'm pretty much given up the shame - phew).

My dad has MS, he first started showing symptoms in 1980, but when he went to the doctor he was told to stop drinking so much! He didn’t try to get answers again for about 10 years when he was finally diagnosed after a spinal tap. I was diagnosed in 2005 with both MRI & spinal tap. And my son was diagnosed in 2018. And still all of our doctors & neurologists tell us that it isn’t genetic! I am terrified that my 3 year old grandson will end up with MS at some point in the future.

Not what you're looking for?
