On Monday I went to the podiatrist thanks to hammer toes. She trimmed the very curled and painful nail away, and then said: "Oh no, that looks like what killed Bob Marley! I responded with "excuse me!" can you tell me what you are talking about? Her response was: "I'm not certain, but I'm pretty convinced it is a melanoma under your toe nail" It was a black spot under the nail towards the tip of the nail. We set up another appointment about having the outer most joint of some toes fused due to the hammer toe. She followed up with see a dermatologist immediately!
So, I made and appt with the dermatologist and went today. He took a look at my toe for about 10 seconds... his response was nope, not melanoma, it is a benign wart. He shaved it, put meds on it and a bandaid. Problem solved! If my wife and I drank alcohol, we would be in a very happy stupor right now!
Next week I find out from the foot surgeon about what is involved in this toe fusion thing. Another day, another paranoid Dr. fully intent on me having a heart attack!

Don't you just love when they suggest you might have cancer and then you have to wait a while to find out it was a false alarm? I was referred to an ENT for an extreme sinus infection (which I did have). Walked in, and he says "Oh, you don't REALLY have a sinus infection. You're here because they found a spot in your neck and you need a biopsy. It's probably not cancerous, but you never know."
I waited nearly 2 weeks to be scheduled for the biopsy, and when I went in the surgeon just kept asking me "Why are you here?" He called in a second doctor, did another ultrasound, and then turned and said "This spot hasn't changed in the THREE YEARS that it's been showing up on your MRI's, it's very normal, and there's nothing wrong with you." I never heard another word from the ENT.
So glad that it was nothing serious! I had a small bump on my toe that my dr said it was cancer and sent me to a dermatologist. The dermatologist looked at it and said it was a mole! If it grew in size to come back. Been a couple of years and it's still the same size.
How scary! That's crazy. I'm not sure that her bursting out with that was very professional. More like, "I don't like the look of this. Let's have you get it looked at by a dermatologist." Much less scary.
