Good Morning, sorry to hear about your teeth 🦷. I didn’t have any problems with my teeth from MS, but 6 years ago cancer ♋️ hit me again and radiation and chemotherapy did a little number. Been better than expected but been a pain. Luckily still have most of my teeth with crowns and fillings. Luckily front teeth are the best for now. Good luck and hope things go well 👍🏼🙏😉😁

yes had them all pulled and now have dentures ...i hate that i had to but why pay a dentist and they don't stay filled ...they fought me too ...teeth are still good and i can fill them and they will stay in ...i just had to demand for them to be taken out and it was hard to put for they were still in really good but ha no more rotten teeth or fillings falling out ..several dentists ...hope you have some great luck for i sure didn't ,no one wants to believe it is because of MS or the meds ...we have to stand up to them for it is our life........ hated when i would loose a tooth and like you said couldn't smile.. ... go for it and i hope all works out for you...have you checked out what they are going to use for any work on your mouth for i have heard stories about other countries don't use good material for doing the teeth and i will make you sick so please check them out really good...be careful ...many prayers you get a beautiful new smile....love and happiness ....

The reason to keep your teeth is that they keep the jawbone healthy. Once the teeth are out, the bones deteriorate and over time you will lose your facial structure

Hello 👋 Kay & welcome 😊.I wish you the best of luck , w/your teeth. I know keeping your teeth is also very important to me. I've been avoiding dental appointments , since the pandemic... Reminds me to go.😂

Come for a visit and I'll give you some lessons! I can be very pushy when I have to be. You need to have an advocate with you if you cannot fight for yourself, but the best would be if you learn to fight.

Hello and welcome to our family. Sorry about your teeth problems. I like the advice from old crows, they are YOUR teeth and you get to make the decision. I just hope you can find the correct dentist to listen to you! Good luck and please keep us posted! Kelly

My teeth are fine after having RRMS since 1986 and did Copaxone, Tysabri ,and lastly, Lemtrada. I brush, floss and swish with Listerine. I avoid sugary drinks.

Hi Kay!My name is Jess and I’ve had tried ms for 30 years and am now 59 yrs old. I have tried these meds; avonex, Betaseron, Copaxone, Tysabri, and Ocrevus. I think what destroyed my teeth were the steroid infusions during the relapses but that’s hard to prove! I have found a periodontist that recommended a dentist for me. He has performed bone grafts where I had bone loss and then inserted implants which are then crowned by the dentist. I believe it’s worth it!! I go for maintenance cleanings every 3 months alternating with the periodontist and dentist. I wish you luck and in sure your new implants will look great!! Don’t worry 😉

they dont tell us that steroids cause bone necrosis.. not just in our teeth. Hips, leg bones, arm bones.. Has any of your doctors ever told you this?? None of mine, not one has ever told me this.. so i have a mouth full of bad teeth, mostly the back ones, and necrosis in the right femur.. possibly in my right hip as well altho i havent had an MRI there to confirm that.. I am waiting for my skull to go soft again like it was when I was an infant

I'm learning a lot here. I didn't know steroids can cause bone and teeth problems. Or that some of the MS medicines we take can also.

The kidneys produce a hormone that triggers the bone marrow to produce red blood cells. If you take a GMT that affects the kidneys then it will cause anemia, possibly.. Not definitely but possibly.. the hormone is called EOPOETIEN and the kidneys produce and release it into the blood stream to trigger the production of red blood cells. Without it you will become anemic very quickly. Many DMTs also affect the liver, which is why you have to have bloodwork for liver enzymes so often. But the steroids are evil things.. and they are over prescribed, in my opinion. I was given them not only for my MS relapses but also for the lung inflammation repeatedly when I was hospitalized for pneumonia on and off since 2013. I spent almost the entire summer of 2013 in the hospital with pneumonia. I would come home for a few days and be right back in within a week on IV steroids and anti biotics. So I have necrosis in bottom of the femur on my right leg.. It hurts like a bitch some days.. The ortho docs refuse to scope and scrape and fill the areas like they would a tooth.. which is actually a procedure they can do.. they want me to have a knee replacement.. to me that is ludicrous because there is nothing wrong with the knee itself.. LOL.. I guess they need lunch money tho because they wont even discuss with me any other options

I haven't had steroids in a while. It seems my doctor's don't over prescribe them. But when I've needed them for my eyes I do it. That really sucks about your knee. I'd want it just filled also instead of replacement. Hope all goes well.

So sorry to hear about your teeth. I was on Copaxone for 7 years and felt my teeth were getting bad. I stopped C because of reactions directly after injecting. If you google Copaxone and tooth loss it will show a clinical phase IV study of FDA data. Stay strong and please keep smiling.

Sorry, I can't be much help when it comes to dental. I'll be 80 years old in a couple of months and I've been using Copaxone to help control my M.S. since 2003. However, due to bad dental care habits when I was much younger, I lost my teeth before I was 50.

I took Copaxone. I've been on Gilenya for 2 years. I really think you have something going on that is not your MS. Maybe start with getting your dr to go a bone density for the rest of you. Do you take calcium? Talk to your Dr about calcium citrate with vitamin d. You need the vitamin D to help absorb the calcium citrate.

I was on Copaxone for about 3 years and did not have any issues with my teeth. Good luck.

i forgot that part of the problem was having dry mouth really bad...i don't know for sure why i had to do it but no one is willing to say for they thought i should keep them ...now i wish i did but now don't have to go to the dentist and all of that money to keep fixing them ...had good teeth before all of the meds for ms ...at least that is what i feel that killed them ...

YES! My teeth were so good and strong at one point when I was like 30 that my dentist told I would never lose a tooth to decay.. it would be to gum disease. Now I have had 5 pulled in the bad and have one close to the front that needs pulling because it's cracked right up the middle and has already abscessed and died. It's horrible. I cannot get my teeth white anymore because I take liquid iron for anemia that seems related to the DMT's and steroids killing my blood counts and it's frustrating. I get the same story.. We don't pull healthy teeth, and they say the fronts and the first 2 on either side except the cracked one are mostly healthy
