I Was a Sucker

I was so dazzled by this brand new healthcare system in the Albuquerque area and their primary care doctor, that I jumped ship . . .

And I can't swim!

The Healthcare system and the primary care are still amazing. The problem is where I had to get rid of a fantastic healthcare insurance plan that covered everything I needed covered except the new system and doctor. I told them I shopped for coverage every November based on, 1 who covers my medications, specifically Aubagio, and then 2 who then covers my doctors.

The doctors were no longer as important as they used to be because my neurologist had moved on to rug rats instead of old farts, my cardiologist had been abducted by space aliens, and my primary care would be with the new system because the one I had died suddenly Thanksgiving weekend. But those meds were damned important, and Aubagio was only covered by 2 companies. One of which, I wasmtold was lousy, and the other was the one I had: United Healthcare.

I was told by the two ladies who handled insurance for the new system, that it was incorrect there were only 2 companies covering Aubagio. They mentioned the lousy company, of course. However they said there was another company that was NEVER mentioned . . .

I was willing to listen. It sounded great, so I went for it. Besides, it was cool it was the health system whose hospital I was born!

Then I get a letter from my new insurance Co.:

It was a letter telling me they DO NOT cover Aubagio!

They will so "temporarily", but . . .

I don't know if the two bi----s know Multiple Sclerosis isn't "temporary", or if they were so excited about getting me set up I. The new healthcare system, they didn't care they had to lie. >:(

I am so sorry as I know you were really excited about this new practice.

Where does this leave you now, regarding these drs and your Aubagio treatment? Besides with a big headache...

You need to have your Dr apply for coverage exemption with the insurance company explaining this is the only med you can tolerate. Insurance companies will usually cover it then.

Thanks for saying this. I'll give it a try. However, it means I have to chase down the new-greatest ever-bestest-neurologist-who is not treating me like a new patient-but will have nurse practioners see me instead.

I'm also going to call MSOne2One to see if they have advice.

They will cover the cost.

The nurse practitioner can also do it as they act on behalf of the Dr.

That’s awful. I’d report the ones who lied about it being covered.

I am so sorry you are going through this! I went through a similar (sorta) situation. Got a letter saying my insurance would not be covering my Tysabri any more. While I was in the midst of trying to get someone at my neuron’s office to answer the phone. I got another letter from my insurance saying they WOULD cover it. Hang in there, and I hope everything gets sorted for you quickly.

I was also involved with something similar--the other insurance Co the new primary care wouldmtake: said they wouldn't cover Aubagio anymore and was told to tell myneuro to put me on something else. Instead, I found another insurance co--the one I had to give up for the new primary care.AAAAAAŔRRRRRRRRGGGGGGG!

I received a letter last month from insurance denying ocrevus,😲 after approving it for the past 4 years. It turned out the neuro office had sent the request in too soon, at 5 months rather then 6. Thank goodness this was an easy fix..

I hope your issues can be resolved without too much stress on your part🤞
