Curious minds want to know! πŸ€—πŸ’•πŸŒ

I had it in high school, missed part of sophomore and junior years with it. Yes, I think it is linked to ms.

Never had mono, but curious to see if there might be a connection.

YES; Jessmcd2 you're on to something as a possible MS trigger!

I had a very bad case of mono my junior year in high school. I always had ear infections and strep throat frequently in my early teens too. I was dx with MS in 1994 (age 25) with a few spots on my first MRI.

Dx and Adios back then. Three years later (1997) my follow up MRI showed substantial silent progression, and I was told I was LUCKY THREE TIMES. Start Avonex as soon as possible, which I continue today.

Avonex has been my "silver lining in my MS cloud." Slow, silent progression, but since 1997 my MRIs have been stable (yet still full of black holes and stuff; retired early due to fatigue and cognitive issues BUT I STILL LOOK SO GOOD LOL).

JESSMCD2 and JIMEKA YOU MAKE MSAA Chat @ HealthUnlocked EXTRA SPECIAL EVERY DAY BY DOING WHAT YOU DO TO LIFT US UP!!!

THANKS SO MUCH!!!

I had mono in my early 20s. Pretty bad case of it. I’ve heard it may be related to MS but don’t know too much about that research. I was dx with MS in my early 40s.

My boyfriend had mono but I didn't. There are researchers investigating the Epstein-Barr (mono)-MS connection, but I don't know the evidence or conclusion.

I had it a long time ago and I only think that it MAY (among other possibilities) be connected with my MS.

Yes it's definitely connected. More studies are even starting to show that. I test it all the time and whenever the MS seems more active. Whenever I have gotten an MS flare/attack I test positive for Epstein/Barr (current infection). I always test positive for past infection.

Yes I had it in high school also, was sick for a few months.

I didn't have Mono but I did have a severe case of Chickenpox when I was 14. I read a study a few years back that suggested that diseases we normally get in our earlier years can trigger MS if we get them later on in life.

I knew a guy who believed his MS was brought on by vaccinations he received in the military. He had to retire from the Army because of it.

I ask because of my own curiosity, and it's a good MS topic for people to talk about!πŸ˜‚πŸ€—πŸ’•πŸŒ

Great question! I asked that on another app and didn't have any responses. I had mono at 19 or 20. Dx with MS not until 51 but neurologist said I probably had it for awhile. I read about the Epstein Barr connection too.

Anyone get rashes with their fevers; along where the lymph nodes are located, from neck to groin? πŸ€”πŸ€”πŸ€”

I just say everyone has been exposed, but only those who developed mono remember it. Yes, I was very sick (but also had secondary infections), and old enough to remember every hour of my body trying to kill me. I have no doubts that it was the MS spark, and possibly continues to be the relapse spark. Despite the fact that I do not want to be on Ocrevus, it does tame latent EBV.

How is mono connected to the CNS?

never had the infection but was exposed to it by a co-worker when i was in my mid 20's.. She had such a severe case she was out of work for almost a year..

Yes I had mono. I had it at 30. It was really bad. It took me months to get over it. They say many people have it as a young child and never know they have had it. In young children it manifests itself as flu like symptoms. I got it from my nieces who they thought had the flu but I came down with mono a week later.
