Question for all
I'm using CBD creme and Arnicare instead of taking pain pills.Leslie
CAREFUL!! Most those pain pills are opioids so be very careful when taking them.
What are the 5 meds you are on now for pain?
Oxytocin Percesets
I feel like when I'm not on them I hurt even worse
The problem with opioid pain meds is when you stop after taking for more than just short term after a surgery or something it causes your body to think you are in pain even if there is no real physical reason for the pain. That is why doctors are careful to prescribe for as short a time as possible for injuries. They have programs where they slowly reduce the dose to help get people off who no longer have a physical cause of pain.I know many of us on this forum do have physical (including neurologic) causes of pain.
If you have not met with a pain specialist I would start there. It is likely possible to combine different types of medicines that work together instead of upping doses of opioids.
Best of luck!
I worked for years as a Clinical Supervisor in a methadone clinic. I would suggest that it has great benefits, if used under doctor’s direction. But it is EXTREMELY addictive. I have seen many overdoses, children getting into parents methadone and dying, and have attended too many overdose funerals. So please educate yourself and talk extensively to your doctor.
Hi Jackjosh. I have been on them and got myself off because I became too dependent. I now stick to non narcotic stuff like mild muscle relaxants and heating pads and ice whenever I can. I did just have major surgery and was on morphine for 2 days hospital and then on hydrocodone combination for 3 days at home but doctor was quick to discourage use for too long. I switched to high doses of Advil and muscle relaxants and it actually worked most of the time! Maybe it’s me but I have enough trouble with my cognitive abilities that narcotic pain meds are not a good idea for me. (There are exceptions however like major surgery…) Pain is no fun; I hope you get some answers for the best help. Hugs.
If your pain is neuropathic, perhaps Lyrica or gabapentin could be appropriate?I agree with all the above statements, opioids are very addictive and are not meant to be used for long-term pain management.
I'm not on any pain meds. But, ask your Dr. if CBD could work for you.
I won't take any opiods myself. I have a very hard time tapering of Rx's or even switching to generics. I do take Lyrica. I find it helps some at least from the hips down. I did gabapentin for about a year and found it helps the upper body more.
Been doing Lyrica for 5 years now. I tried to taper off it slowly earlier this year and could not do it....trying to manage pain is the worst.
When I broke my hip earlier this year they were like aren't you in a lot of pain? I said, "probably". It was almost like normal, not nerve pain was a relief for a while😕
Hi Jackjosh what are you taking them for? I take tramadol for pain.. have been on it for years. And have gone days without taking it. But I don't really have an addictive personality.. there are some here that have pain pumps also... 🤗💕🌠
I've been on pain pills over a year but it's not hard to stop its the pain I have
i haven't tried methadone. unfortunately, pain management is just that. it doesn't make the pain completely go away, but it should help enough that you can function in your daily life and sleep at night. i'm taking nerve pain, opiate, cbd and something for muscle spasms. even with that, i have to manage my spoons.
