Covid vaccine timing?

Covid vaccine

For anyone that had the covid vaccine and especially on ocrevus. How long after your infusion did you do the covid vaccine? I asked my neurologist because I am on ocrevus and he said 2-5 months after last infusion. Which tells me nothing. I just don't want to get sick or have any kind of reaction. Basically I am terrified of getting the covid vaccine. BUT, I really want to go to Mexico in October. Any help or suggestions would be great.

Thank you

Jenny

I think that range allows you to schedule 2 doses. I had the JJ vax 26 days after my Kesimpta shot.

Thank you. J&J is who/what i am thinking of

It wasn’t reaction free for myself, but I react to flu shots so I’m not a good example. I did not have a fever, but 6hrs after the shot I started to feel crappy and dehydrated, so I took a pitcher of water to bed along with Tylenol and a child’s Benadryl. Slept fine. I held my next K dose an extra 2 days just to make sure I got something out of it. My friend just came back from Mexico, they are doing rapid tests in the airport before coming back to the states.

About Your friend. Do people have to get vaccinated to go to Mexico?

They were not, so I think you can travel as long as you get tested. They all had the covid virus and were staying a month at a beach house, so the risk of them getting or spreading it was low. I wasn’t going to risk it with my kids and having to find a location to do the tests 72hrs before our flight home, but I didn’t know they were doing the tests the CDC requires for US entry in the airport.

I'm on ocrevus and was told I had to wait 12 weeks

From the NMSS

If you are about to start Ocrevus or Rituxan, consider getting fully vaccinated 2-4 weeks or more prior to starting the infusions.

If you are already taking Ocrevus or Rituxan, consider getting vaccinated 12 weeks or more after the last DMT dose.

When possible, resume Ocrevus or Rituxan 4 weeks or more after getting fully vaccinated.

This suggested scheduling is not always possible and getting the vaccine may be more important than timing the vaccine with your MS medicine. Work with your MS healthcare provider to determine the best schedule for you.

Jenny I am on Ocrevus for 3 yrs now I had the phiser vaccine last May both shots no reaction at all. Had it in my left arm as I'm right handed. My arm was sore for a few days both times. The only thing I was told was it had to be at least 2 weeks before my infusion. It was 3 weeks & 2 days. Everything was fine still is I am also 95% covered 2 weeks after my 2nd shot. Both my PCP & Neuro are happy as I have more than MS that I deal with. Relax you will do fine the % of those who didn't is very low last I heard. Trust in God you'll be ok & I'll be praying for you too.

The timing is to maximize the effect of the vaccine. I don’t think it has anything to do with vaccine side effects. And the recommended timing is arbitrary because most of us do not repopulate our B cells to have the needed immune response for 6 or more mos after infusions.

I waited 4 months from my Ocrevus infusion and did the J&J vaccine. Had it in April and get Ocrevus next month.Other than an increase in fatigue for 4-5 days I didn't have any reaction.

I can speak to the opposite. I had my vaccine as soon as available and needed to wait 4-6 weeks after to have sch 6 month Ocrevus dose. O 12/7/20

Moderna 4/13/21 & 5/11/21

O 6/14/21

Another vaccine not O consideration I wasn’t told was the recommended 6 weeks post final vaccination for a mammogram! I had to reschedule bc wasn’t told until I saw it on the news. I called to ask & they said yes. Wouldn’t have been a problem bc I was supposed to get JJ day it was pulled so Moderna it was & hence the delay.

I don't quite understand what you are saying regarding mammogram timing. Is it in relation to ocrevus infusion or covid vaccination that you are referring? Could you explain it again please, thanks.

In regards to vaccine. They said lymph nodes could swell creating false readings of the images.

Just another thing directly correlated to vaccine timing

Thanks for the clarification. So wait six weeks after vaccination to schedule mammogram? I had one vaccine then got covid in April. I was called to schedule mammogram and no one said anything regarding this. I will have to make some phone calls...

I had my last Ocrevus infusion in Feb 21 then had the Moderna vaccine in March. STILL no antibodies per blood tests! I read this is happening to others but OCREVUS said they are still researching why. Anyone else know anything about this? I’m scared

I think many of us have asked our doctors about antibody testing and been told no. You are one of the very few posts I've seen that was able to get the testing. I wish you had had a better result. Please continue to update with new posts any new information you learn. We are all anxious about this. Thanks

My husband never mounted a B-cell response from the Covid vaccine due to Ocrevus. He was tested twice (after two Moderna shots 6 weeks after infusion and then 4 months later two Pfizer shots just before infusion). However, his T cells did show a response. In other words, he has no protection against contracting Covid, but does have improved ability to fight it off after he gets it. We will both continue forever to wear masks when with large groups of strangers. When I can't/don't wear a mask, I wear a mask at home for 7 days after exposure and minimize my exposure to him by eating outside, etc. I worry that his lungs are not healthy enough to handle a bad respiratory infection even with the T-cell response.

Hello there. I am taking Ocrevus and I had my last infusion in February and was vaccinated in March. The only side effect that I had was a sore arm which concerned me that my immune response was not super high. It is funny that you mention that you want to go to Mexico in October. For us this was a struggle that we dealt with this summer and in October. My husband is Mexican and looking to buy a condo near Playa del Carmen which is close to Cancun. We were looking at planning a trip in June to Mexico yet, they were at an amber color rating and looking to possibly change it to red. So, we decided to not go to Mexico this summer. In October, he was planning on going with his friend to look at the condos and possibly buy one. He has since canceled his trip due to the new Delta variant with Covid and he is not immunocompromised. He’s mostly worrying about myself and my son knows not yet vaccinated due to his age. I’m not sure if this is helpful and I don’t want to be a downer for your plans. At this point I would not book a trip for Mexico. At least, not until everything gets under control.

Thanks for the advice. Yeah I am so stressed about going. I still haven't booked airfare. I want to go but i know it is not the right time. We can go when all this covid stuff is done. Thank you
